Hi all, I am trying to take the throttle body off for the first time on my 2000 x1. I really don't want to take the intake off. I have the bottom bracket removed and trying to pull it out. It is not coming out easily. Any tips on how to get it out. If I pull to hard will I mess up the intake gaskets? Any help from someone that has done this would greatly help. |

LOl get ready for a real pain in the a$$. It sounds like the rubber holding the assembly together is old and dry. It is a pain with new rubber gaskets going back together. I almost had to hang on it and use my weight and go up and down like 50 times to wriggle it loose. Also if you can get rid of the screw holding the the injector fuel rail in place with a allen screw. |

Sling, if it's coming out that hard, the intake seals should be replaced anyway. The TB should pull right out after you remove the retaining clip on the bottom. Seriously, if it's been more than a few years since the intake seals were replaced, they need it. When you replace them, use SilGlyde on all 3 of the seals. You can pick up a tube at NAPA. |

It is going to be a real job getting it apart. And if you take apart the front section of the intake......Make sure you have it positioned dead straight when you squeeze it back together or you get to do it again!! Ask me how i know.(I think i remember prying with a big flat head screwdriver?)
Here is what i found when i removed my intake.
As long as you leave the intake bolts alone they should be okay.....But i would do them anyways. You just need an allen wrench cut off at the bend. |

Thanks guys. The bike is 12 years old and has never been apart there. I was hoping not to mess with the intake. I was thinking if I hit it with a heat gun and heat up the rubber that might loosen things a bit I also put some wd40 on it to set in till tomorrow. I will try the heat maybe it will soften up the rubber. If I pull on the body and twist it back and forth do you think that it will damage the intake seals? Thanks guys |

Are the intake seals special order? Most buell dealers don't carry any buell stock. |

The seals are standard Evolution sportster stuff. |

If you order them from a HD parts guy do not say it's a BUELL or it will be a hassle. I would call a dealer and request the HD part number and then go in and pick it up....They will have a ton in stock. |

But the two throttle body seals are NOT sportster items and are special order. |

Greg, I think you mean the injector seals right? If not, they should be replaced as they are probably leaking too. Brad |

Mission accomplished! Thank you everyone for the replies. PLEASE READ!!!!! This could make your life easier it did for me. I pulled and pulled on the throttle body and it did not budge. I cut way the lips of the gaskets and sprayed penetrating oil in there it did not budge. Then I hit it with my heat gun on the back side of the engine on the intake manifold. Did that for around 5 plus minutes and it pulled right off. Easy when heated. I bought the new gaskets they cost $12 each. I do think that they can be reused tho. Thanks you Bluzm2 for the tip of the SilGlyde got some from NAPA. I buttered the heck out of that throttle body. It will never stick again. Did a tps rest with VDTS and the bike has a better throttle response then it did before. Probably the new sensor I hope this tip helps someone else make it easier, I couldn't see myself hanging from the throttle body trying to get it off. LOL If I could be of any help please let me know |

Thanks for this thread. I've added this thread to my "favorites" list for all service Buell related. |

No, I was talking about the two seals at the front and back of the throttle body. They're special order, Buell-only parts. I just went through this with my S3. Kind of a pain in the butt when the dealer doesn't stock any of this stuff because it doesn't match a Harley part. |

The throttle body seals part numbers are 29539-99Y the front and rear are the same. They seem to be exclusive to buell and I had to order them. |

Can someone please expound on the "allen wrench cut off at the bend" thing? Mine are giving me fits, the inside is now wallered out from my "off angle" (sorry can't think of the word) t-handle hex wrenches and won't budge any more. |
