So here are the stats on what I just bought... 2002 S3T Orange & Gray 15k Vance & Hines muffler Pod Filter intake(not sure of the brand) Large saddle bags I have read about cracks in the bags but do not see any in mine yet. Anyone care to share a few pics so I know where to add some strength? I am also missing half of my front hinge on the left bag Do I have any chance of finding a replacement? I am in love with the bike already and have only rode it for a few miles! Any other common problems or tips would be great! THX, Steve

Well, you suck (as in I want it!) Thats a beautiful color combo - I didn't know it was available on the S3. I think the 2002s were all sorted out for the most part. Just do the standard gasket replacements if not already done and start racking up the miles Kilroy |

Is that 'Volcano Gray' and 'Magma Orange' Nice colors! Buell most likely didn't make the hinges. Look for a makers mark, or brand on them. Or maybe somebody here knows? Real nice bike! How about picture of the other side? |

I just picked up an 02 as well in the same color combo. Check my thread just down below "S3T 4th bag mount" or something like that. There is a link to a great thread about reinforcing the bags w/fiberglass. I've been working on a 4th mounting point & hope to have it done & mounted soon Kris |

If you get cracks, they are on the inside half of the bag around the three latches. They are easily corrected with ABS cement and fiber glass cloth. It will cost you less than $10 at Ace Hardware. I managed to score a set of narrow lids (city lids) for my S3T about two years ago. They had an older style hinge that didn't mate up with my 2001. I got the part number out of the parts manual and ordered 4 of them from Chicago HD. I had the parts in about six weeks. Today I'd recommend ordering from Surdyke HD. I can get you the hinge part numbers when I get home if you don't have a parts manual. Great looking S3T, btw. That is my favorite color combination. Let's see a picture of the A/C Exhaust side. Also, the problem areas common to S3Ts were all sorted out by 2002. Your bike will already have the latest rocker box gaskets, updated primary chain tensioner, latest rear shock, latest exhaust hanger. Enjoy the ride! Barry |

Al Lighton from American Sport Bike has the S2/S3 bag upgrade down pat. Call Al and ask if he can post the link into this thread. |

Ahhhhhh . . . great memories . . . the DM Hinge. . . . another product of a Buell intern (like 1313) that was a huge improvement. Gettable . . . likely. |

"Molten" Orange. Beautiful motorcycle. I'd pull that wrap off the header and let it shine |

My old parts book shows P/N 91339-99Y for that part. Looks like the other one is not in too good shape either. (Message edited by 5liter on March 02, 2012) |

Yeah I need to really go through this thing to see what needs to be ordered. The second one has one bolt that is not original... Thanks a TON for the part number. I found it for $12. I guess I might need to get one of those parts manuals. |

@ Ratbuell, the bike fell on is right side and dented the headers in 2 spots. That's why the PO added the wrap. I plan on removing it tomorrow to see the true damage... I did take her out for a 30min ride today and noticed a few things compared to other bikes I have owned (non buell). 1. Heat & shaking at stop lights 2. I think I may need some ear plugs |

2. I think I may need some ear plugs Lose (or repack) that V&H pipe and you'll have that fixed I run a Supertrapp on my S2 and I'm still looking for something quieter so I can ride it long-distances comfortably. My Ulysses got WORLDS better when I put a stock muffler back on, and I've never even thought about changing my CR's exhaust...maybe I'm getting old(er), but quiet is nice and makes for a much more enjoyable ride in my book. (not to say I don't still love the race muffler on the S1W...but that just "fits" the personality of the bike!) |

It is very hard to improve on Erik BUELLs exhaust system designs and get the best of both worlds !!! |

So at first I was thinking I would replace the damaged headers but now I am not sure... I also adjusted the idle a little and the shaking is much better.

Love those colors! I had wrap on one of my headers for a couple of seasons, and when I took it off the pipe had lost all the ceramic coating and the metal was all pitted and corroded. I think it makes the pipes run too hot and then it also holds moisture. I won't ever put it on again. |

+1 on Syn3. I didn't think any headers (other than the black M2 headers) were coated; IIRC they were all bare metal. Not to say a previous owner didn't get one coated...but I think they all left the factory as bare metal. Perhaps 1313 can clarify... |

X1W had a blue header, must have been coated. |

Service manual is not here yet, sorry! Ok, so there is a light that comes on when you first turn on the kill switch. I believe it is the check engine light?? (v-twin symbol) Usually a few seconds later it shuts off & then I start the bike, but yesterday it came on after I started the bike for a min and then went out again... anything to worry about? I did check the oil and it seemed a little low so I am going to do an oil change later today. |

Oh and I got some bad news on the hinge "91339-99Y". The first website refunded my money saying that it had been discontinued I have placed an order from a second site and keeping my fingers crossed... |

I've had bag cracking issues too. What I ended up doing was going to a place that sold surf boards and they were able to glass the entire area that is prone to cracking. Nice job, and about $100 for both bags. |
