I think they cause the frame (fuel tank) to retain too much heat. I really don't think this is a problem. On another note, anybody have the Sato fork/swingarm bobbins? No, but Shred got some frame sliders (bobbin type) and some threaded rod to put through the axle they fit really nice, tested them (DOH! bad wheelie) worked really well. Ground the bobbin down about a third of the way, no swing arm damage. I think we just need to have the frame and swingarm sprayed with about a 1/4 inch of Line-x bed liner and be done with it  | ||

Glitch, it might not be a problem but the fact remains the aluminum tank acts like a heatsink, when encased in carbon fiber it is going to retain more heat than it would with the surface exposed to the air. I suppose it would take some actual testing (dyno or otherwise) to determine how much impact the warmer fuel has on performance. | ||

I've been considering mounting heat sinks to the lower portion of my tank just behind my knees. The only thing keeping me from actually doing it is the prospect of perfectly hamburgered calves if I go down just right. That and the heatsinks would get VERY FREAKIN HOT! | ||

Well I know the frame radiates heat, and that the CF sliders trap a lot of it. Whether it's enough to affect preformance I don't really know. Since cooler air/fuel is part of a recipe for more power it just goes to reason that the cooler you can keep your fuel the better the bike likes it. YMMV.  | ||

I remember at the 20th it was hot up in Wisconsin and everybody riding an XB definitely felt a lot of heat while at least one person using the CF sliders said he didn't even feel it so they must trap quite a bit. | ||

I dunno 'bout all that. If the frame was getting that hot you'd think I'd be losing gas. All that heat making the gas expand and evaporate out the vent tube. I dunno. Never really though about it though to be honest. The sliders might be a problem if they wrapped around the frame, but they only go from top edge to bottom edge, no wrap at all, and aren't extreamly thick. If you could see them you'd know what I mean. Either way I'll keep 'em. Ya sure you wanna have a dark colored frame? | ||

How do you know that your gas isn't evaporating out the vent tube at a faster rate? The design is such that the exposed portions are exposed to the heat of the engine while the portions exposed to moving air are covered. Again, I don't know if that can appreciably affect performance but theoretically it would have to be to some degree. Not sure about the affect of the darker frame. Hopefully in a week I can do a comparison. | ||

Me either. Is something to think about though. When I get home tonight I'll take some pics of the sliders to show where they stop at the top edge and bottom edge. Just in case someone is worried this may be a problem for them, and would like more info before buying a set, as opposed to buying a different kind. No a whole lot of choices for XBs. So I would want everyone to have as much info as possible, so they can buy what they feel comfortable with. | ||

Yes, we have. I don't know if anyone's got a set yet. Look like they'd be fine for low speed low sides or tip overs...and for $40 -=shrugs=- | ||

In all honesty I think they might do a pretty decent job and when ya stick them on you better get it right the first time cause they don't come off to easy.That •••• they have for adhesive rocks. | ||

Dana...I think it looks great and the added protection, even in a driveway drop, is well worth it. | ||

I haven't installed mine yet but I think they will look and work well. I did have a low speed spill early last year and I'm positive that these pucks would have protected the frame from the damage it sustained. | ||
