During the winter and whenever the weather sucks I think about ways to make the Buell better, lighter and more comfortable. This post is about making the bike lighter. My hope is that others will post the weights of parts they've taken off or added to their bike. My weights are from a postal scale that goes down to .1 ounce. It seems fairly accurate since I've taken items to be mailed to the post office and they've been within .1 ounce (or dead on) of my scale. In total, the bike has lost 34lb and 5.3oz. which I calculate to be about 7.5% off the total weight (34.33/460). The 460 figure is just from reading other posts - I've not weighed the bike yet. First, parts removed and weight: Stock Exhaust and 4 bolts 20lb 4.6oz Stock battery and two bolts 11lb 6oz Stock mirrors 2lb 5.4 oz Intake solenoid, cable, bracket, bolt 1lb 14.6oz (had to weigh this again because I originally showed 1lb 13.5oz but I think I missed the bracket/bolts the first time) Rear Seat 1lb 12.5oz Rt. passenger peg & mount, bolts 1lb 9.7oz Lt. passenger peg & mount, bolts 1lb 8.5oz Rear license bracket & bolts 1lb 5.8oz Seat lock cyl, cable, latch, 3 bolts 10.7oz Tools (spanner, nuts, circlip, tube, etc.) 9oz Rear turn signals 6.0oz Upper belt guard & 3 bolts 5.1oz 2 reflectors 4.2oz Tail light housing, bulb, lens, 2 screws 3.8oz Rt rear foot heat deflector & bolt 3.5oz Spools, nuts, washers .9oz Total 44lb 14.3oz And added items & weight: Barkers Exhaust 6lb 2.5oz Shorai battery 2lb 5 oz Motoscience mirrors 1lb 5oz XB lights tailight w/t-signals 7.3oz Sportbike Elites LP bracket & LED 4.2oz Kydex & velcro to secure cowl cover 1oz Total 10lb 9.0oz. |

I'm guessing that's about where my race bike is now... maybe closer to 40 total with the lighter wheels, bodywork and other street bits removed. It doesn't seem that much lighter, though. I think Buell did a really good job at getting what is a pretty heavy bike feel surprisingly light. |

Mass centralization or something like that most of the weight is between your legs... Well atleast in my case lol. Plus the 1125r has a huge tank/frame I think it's like 5.8. Where other bikes are 4.0-4.8 kinda unfair 2 weigh the 1125r on a full tank. |

Yeah, because otherwise it wouldn't go very far. And I don't think that 5.8 is usable - I think it's closer to 5 usable, and if you fill beyond that, you puke fuel overboard. |

When I converted my 09 1125R to a track bike I was surprised by how much I could take off, well done to the original post to list all the weights, I will now put my bike on a weighbridge before the first track day of the year and find out the fully fueled weight. |

Jdugger: Fuel, at least 100LL (avgas) is typically calculated at 6lb/gal. It's actually a bit higher, but not usually by much. You might be thinking of water, which is 8.3 lb/gal. |

I tracked my bike's diet pretty closely. As it runs on the track, it is 48 pounds down from stock weight. A lot of that (20 lb. or so) is battery and exhaust. Start taking off lights, mirrors, passenger pegs, and the weight just melts away.... Now if I could just lose another 20 myself... |

And I lost over 16 pounds in body weight over the winter so that should help the bike more than the weight lost be changing some items on the bike. |

Good catch Russell. Fuel is around 6.07 LB per US Gallon. JD may be thinking of the special Buell Race fuel with beryllium. |
