Whats on the reservoir cap ... Want your calipers to last for ever, change you brake fluid once a year, "BUT" if you are really hard on you brakes make it every 6 months ... |

All S2's were equipped from the factory with DOT 5 brake fluid as were the RS/RSS's before them and the S1, M2, S3/S3-T after them. Buell did not switch to DOT 4 until the 2000 MY. The Brembo rear reservoir cap as used on the S2 had to have the text molded into the cap machined off as it was incorrect for the Buell application. It almost sounds like you've got a replacement cap on your reservoir if it's got text molded on it. DOT 4 and DOT 5 are NOT compatible, so you need to know what the old fluid is before just dumping what someone on the internet recommends for your application. If someone running DOT 5 from the early tuber days wants to changeover to DOT 4, it's a little more involved than just draining the DOT 5 and dumping in DOT 4. Even if the seals in the master cylinder are compatible with both and have been used with DOT 5, they will have to be replaced before changing to DOT 4. Sorry for the safety message, 1313 |

My cap on 1995 S2 does list DOT 4 Here's mine (a clean bike is the sign of a twisted mind...):
It's one of the few unmodified (by me) parts on my S2, 1313 |

I use dot5 in my S2. It is what the manual calls for. Works for me. Shane |
