Hi, my check engine light comes on intermittently when I'm riding and the indicator lights flicker as well. I've tried to check the error codes by using the diagnostic plug which I believe is located under the seat on '09s as indicated in the picture. I'm using a wire to short the two pins but I'm not getting the blinking lights with the codes like I think I should be. Am I doing it wrong? My understanding is that I need to connect the two pins then turn the ignition switch on, do I need to set the engine switch to "run" in order to see the codes? Any help would be appreciated.  | ||

Yes, you need the switch to be in the engine run position. |
