I was shocked to observe cord showing in the center of my rear tire---should have noticed it earlier, but with not much more than 3K miles I was not expecting so much wear. The front still looks OK. Anybody else experience such fast wear? It's supposed to be a sport-touring tire, for crying out loud! I think I'll go back to Michelin Pilot Roads---I've had good luck with those. Guess I'll try the Road 3, though I'm just assuming that it's an upgrade to the Road 2. | ||

My rear lasted 6K but after getting 15K out of the stocker that was a let down. | ||

3k out of my last rear. I can usually get 5k or better around here. | ||

only got 5k out my 1st angel but now have the e construction on and it may go farther but wont be worn out till summer starts | ||

I got 10K out of my Pirelli Angel rear. I rode the first 9K fairly easy, and the last 1K was full of hard accelerations all the time to help break in a new motor. The last 1K wore down the tire a lot faster than I expected. I was surprised to see the cord showing in the middle of the tire. I mostly ride on smooth freeways to commute to work. I think the road smoothness makes a big difference in how fast they wear down. The new rear is wearing faster than the first, probably because of all the hard accelerations and hard riding I've been doing. I'll be getting less than 10K on this one. Maybe 8K. | ||

+1. Road smoothness, how smooth you are with brakes and throttle, and PSI are the big factors in tire life. I've gotten track-days plus 4000 street miles on a set of USED non-DOT race tires I got for free. I haven't tried the Angel yet, I am at 18k miles on the Diablo Strada, which is the tire the Angels replaced. | ||

I do a fair bit of mountain riding---we'll call it brisk, not crazy fast, and I do see a lot of roads with rough pavement. Still---on the same roads and the same (model) bike, I got a lot more mileage out of Michelin Pilot Roads. I don't think I've ever gotten more than about 9K out of sport touring tires, and I've gone through LOTS of them. But ~3K mileage is more the territory of sport tires, IMHO. | ||

3k?? WOW That's what I got out of my last Diablo Corsa but I'm a self proclaimed throttle jockey and I'm HARD on rear tires. I cooked Pilot Power in 1k LOL So far the new Pilot Road 2's are wearing really good. | ||

I have Angels on my S3 and so far I have 8k on them. The rear is beginning to get flat(I live in Florida). The front is beginning to chop. This is mostly commuter miles. | ||

Erics... I ride pretty darn hard, you can ask any of the HRHooligans who's ever followed me, they'll tell ya! My first Angel Rear I got a little over 6K, I'm on my second one now cause it was the best Sport-Touring Pirelli I've tried. On all types of surfaces too. Hands down better then the Diablo-T (5K) or the Rosso (4K) or the Corsa (3K). I can't compare to the Pilots cause i've never put anything but Pirelli's on it in 36K miles. The angel I have on back had over 1,000 miles on it before the "halo" pattern even wore off. Looks like it will last at least 10,000. I now have Angels front and rear and really like them. At least as good as the strada's they replaced. | ||

My question is, what air pressure do each one of you run. I want to see if that has any correlation to how fast they wear out. | ||

I keep it to the pressure specified in the shop manual. Don't remember off the top of my head (upper 30's I think), but I keep it posted on a clipboard in the garage and check the pressure every week or two. Have not seen any particularly low pressures when I've checked. The bike has been parked ever since I saw the cord showing and ordered new Michelins, and the rear has gone flat. That's how close to worn out it was! The front still looks pretty good. |
