Ray - membership definitely has it's privileges. Well not only are you and your son so lucky to meet with the turn on the mountain, but I crashed this weekend in the exact same turn. This weekend proved to be quite interesting to say the least, not our typical SPLASH weekend. Ferris, you should have been there. While riding I went down very hard in a turn and ended up getting an ambulance ride off the mountain. It was all my fault, rider error, I am so lucky. I came into a left turn carrying quite a bit of speed (read between the lines - going to fast), a squirrel came out to the center line, which was right in my line, I panicked not knowing how to handle it, adjusted my line but then the damn thing ran for the edge of the road and I watched it run into the ditch and followed it right in, breaking a little. Target fixation at it's finest. I road the ditch for quite some time, thinking "just let it go where it will, very little input to the handle bars be soft". The initial get off to the ditch unfortunately slammed my crotch right into the tank (big big owies). Well eventually the bike decided to return to the street and I thought, "cool I'm going to make it!", well not so cool, it pitched me from the bike and I turned in the air landing with my head in the ditch - helmet acted as a large trowing device to scoop as much dirt in as possible, hit my chin on the edge of the road, my legs and arms landed on the asphalt and then I slid behind my bike until I came to a stop halfway across the road. I crawled on my knees to the ditch and then once I saw there were no cars, got up and tried to go to my bike. Eric was there within a few minutes to help me out, so appreciated him. I have to say, I am so grateful for good friends and so grateful for good gear. The ER doctor was from Canada and also rides motorcycles, he said based on looking at my gear, I was so lucky to have it on, that my injuries could have been much worse - I have to agree. I didn't break any bones and came out of it with only three stitches under my chin and a few scrapes and bruises. I will be back on the horse as soon as it is fixed and all the soft tissue injuries are gone. I am so lucky to be associated with such a stellar group of people. My husband for being there for me at the hospital, Cody for all the kind things he said to try and make me feel better.....(I was sulking saying I'm so stupid, I suck, blah blah blah and Cody says....)...."You know Mom there are not very many girls who ride so I think that makes you a One of a Kind!" or ......"Mom you are a good rider, you don't ride as good as me and Dad, but you are still a good rider and you'll be back!" kids.... and then Eric for being the first one on the scene to take care of me, to get me down on the ground and assessing my injuries - thanks for the ice pack - you made me smile when you kept saying, "I'm not trying to cop a feel, just checking for injuries".... I was so embarrassed and you made me feel ok to be stupid. Mike George for carrying my tail pack and getting Mike, to the long group who all came back to check on me - seriously sorry to bring you all out of your way - I would have preferred to be riding with you all, to our friends Ty and Denelle for getting my bike off the mountain, to Matt for staying there with my bike - sorry brother to ruin your trip and cut into your riding time, to Debi for helping me shower and dress, Galen for helping me at the park when I got sick from the meds and to Bob for making me laugh keeping in mind how lucky I really was..... classic Bob moment..... EMT: where does it hurt? Kimberlie: my pelvic bone hurts bad. Bob: I think she might need an oral examination! EMT: bright red - no comment Kimberlie: laughing....... Thank you to everyone who was so nice to me when I got back, I am ashamed and embarrassed of my accident, I planned to spend the night in my bed, but spent it with friends instead. Acid Burn - you are the man, thank you so much for preparing such an amazing meal on Saturday! Chris and Loni - I am so sad about the news of your grandfather. We are thinking about you and will be praying for you. Let us know if we can help in any way. I LOVE ALL OF YOU and am so honored to have you all as my friends. Kimberlie |

Double my pleasure.... I mean....... Oh never mind. Just checked my e-mail and I got this yesterday from a friend - how appropriate. Humans are divided into two parts: body and spirit. The body is like a house, but the spirit is like an automobile--always on the move. I'll be back! ps... as I was leaving the Hospital, the HR doctor yells down the hall to me, "so are you gonna keep on riding", my response "HELL YEAH!" he smiled and said, "good answer". |

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry! Lyle hasn't read this yet but I'll go on record as saying he's sorry for you too. He just doesn't know it yet. A couple of quick comments: You said you'll "be back on the horse as soon as it is fixed and all the soft tissue injuries are gone." That will be longer than you think. Or maybe I'm a bigger sissy than I think. Or maybe I'm just older. At any rate, my personal soft tissue seems to heal pretty slow these days. None of us are as flexible or as strong as we used to be and you just went through a major trauma. Take your time and don't let your pride force you to do something you really don't feel quite ready to do. Both Lyle and I still feel a keen sense of embarrassment for having been caught riding over our heads and having fallen on said heads. Your ego will continue to be bruised long after your chin heals and the bike is repaired. Join the club cutie, you ain't the first and you won't be the last. Besides, guys dig scars. And remember that this isn't a moral issue, God doesn't love you any less for having splattered your face in the dirt. Lyle and I are really (really!, Really!, REALLY!) glad that no serious damage was done. You lived through it, the squirrel lived through it, and even the dirt wasn't seriously damaged. All three of us (four, counting the squirrel) are glad that it was a left hand turn and we all went into the embankment rather than a right hand turn that would have sent us off the edge of a 500 foot cliff. That would have been a real bummer. I just hate the very thought of dieing. Pain is one thing but dieing sux. Anyway, sorry it happened. Glad that you're more or less OK. See you in Sept. Ray |

About said Mr. Squirrel..... all I could think about was the damn commercial where the two squirrels run across the street, cause the auto accident and then give each other a high five....! Regarding getting back on. Funny thing is that I am not nervous at all, being around the track you see a lot of accidents and well that is just part of riding. If Cody can crash and get back on and ride ever so hard and win a race right after a bad wreck, well heck I can get back on and ride. I learned what my limits are and learned a good lesson as MG said about concentration. Your game face needs to be there at all times when you are on the bike. I am looking forward to riding soon. Got my bike back today, I don't know how so little happened. Frame sliders and full coverage insurance are a must - so glad we have both! From the outside it doesn't look that bad, can't wait to find out exactly what it will take to get her going again. Thank you so much Ray for your kind words.... We won't be at Border Raid this year, Cody has a National race that weekend. Cheers! Kimberlie ps.... if anyone has pictures from the crash post them up. I am giving you permission, whatever you have I would like to see, I don't remember much about it with all that was going on. |

FMJ - here is another Bobby G spot classic... as they are strapping me to the board.... EMT: just hold real still, we will lift you. Kimberlie: ok Bobby G: Hey you, yeah you with the purple gloves, I'm watching you to make sure you don't cop a feel. EMT: bright red, looks at me and says quietly, I'm a professional I would never do such a thing. Kimberlie: damn (J/K - honey). Kimberlie |

Kimberlie, Sorry to hear about the bad get off, that sucks. Sounds like the biggest thing hurt was the ego, glad you came through it okay. You should have killed the squirrel so he doesn't screw with anyone else. Be careful with sharp blows to the head, your helmet can't absorb all of the impact. Trixie had BPPV, bad vertigo, from inner ear damage due to her accident 3 years ago. If you feel dizzy, have trouble walking, bad headaches, get tired easily, and you haven't been drinking tequila, then see a doctor. Take care and hair over quick. Chris and Loni, My heart goes out for your loss. |

Hi Everyone, We (Don, me & Brent & Cindy) made it home today, Monday. Had a great time and still are! We kidnapped Deb and are holding her hostage for at least a day. LOL. Too bad Bob already left for work or we would've nabbed him too! Anyway just wanted to check in and say we had a great time as usual. Great meeting new friends and seeing old ones. I'll be in touch when the photos are done. But at the moment it's time for another cool one... Ride on, Lo |

All, We made it back somewhat intact. Thanks Bob and Deb for helping us get our bikes sorted out. Deb thanks for taking Shaun to get a new tire and Bob for tacking up my broken muffler mount. We stopped for some Taco Bell (can't get enough) and I noticed my header is cracked almost all the way around near the O 2 sensor. I'm not sure if I should get it welded or try to locate another race header. Anyone know where there might be one? It was great to see everyone again. Thanks to Loni and Chris for the great food and welcome and thanks to Acid Burn for the outstanding steaks, beans and beer. Hopefully you will all have as good a time in Canada in Sept. as we had. By the way Bob you were in fine form on Saturday Night - entertainment at it's finest. Hope you aren't too sore Kim. It was great to see you smiling soon after that evil tree rat tricked you. Thank you all. I had a great time this weekend. But what a bruised and battered bunch of bikes to limp home to Canada: Funjimmy- gravel shattered front fender on the RC51, Shawn- blown fork seal (plus tire flattened and replaced at Bob's), Harve- broken exhaust mounts, leading to header crack, Jim- crash damage, Craig- crash damage. I probably shouldn't sound smug, but Firemanjim would be pleased to know that of the six of us who came down together, the S2 is the only bike not needing repairs on our return. (overheating the brake doesn't hurt it does it?) Luck, more than skill or good planning. I'm somewhat guilt-wracked about two events, though. Sorry to Brent and Cindy and Don and Lorraine for abandonng ya'll at the west-side infocentre. Hope you were OK with that. As you know, time became a big problem for Shawn's tire replacement program. And sorry to Jim, Harve, Shawn, and Jack(?) for (a) my poor navigating skills and (b) my lack of faith in my friends. Full story for those who didn't hear it will be posted, I think, in the SPLASH section later. (not a good enough story to warrant a Tale Section entry unless someone else starts it first. And did I see somewhere that there is a plan to draw for the quilt tomorrow? 'Cause I got dibs on eight tickets (of twelve left) that Loni probably hasn't had time to put in the drawing barrel. And finally, reading Kimberlie's account of her adventure, I might point out, to send credit where due, that Eric, her first aid saviour, would be Greeneric, travelling complete with first aid kit, no less. I was about fourth at the scene and stood around useless as a stump. A refresher course in first aid has worked its way up my priority list. Kudos to Eric. (the other one). And to Kimberlie for making it back to party on. And to Cody for his composure and charm. Oh hell, and to everyone else for everything. What a great bunch! |

It sounds like, all things considered, it's just as well I wasn't there. I'm sorry that so many of my friends had a bad day. |
