hey wuts up everyone?

im having problems with my ignition at the moment. im stuck up in daytona 400 miles from my house. so this is my problem i have a 2001 buell m2 cyclone and when i turn the key and turn the kill switch to the run position the ignition fuse blows. i already checked inside of the box were the wires are at in the switch box and everything is fine. i even tryed to clean the connections and nothing is happening just the same thing over and over again. soooooo wut can i do i need help asap

Sounds like you've got a short to ground in one of the ignition feeds.

Get a multimeter and check the wires for a short to the chassis. Look for rub-throughs and the like. Chances are, once you find it, all you'll need is a new fuse and some electrical tape to fix it.

Take your (spare?) headlamp bulb and connect the bulb across your blown fuse (using whatever is handy, alligator clips, chunks of wire..) - the bulb will now light up because of the short, but won't let enough current to pass to burn anything up (like the wiring harness). With the key switch and kill switch on - disconnect the ignition module and notice if the lamp goes out. Disconnect the ignition sensor, or the ignition coil, or the vacuum switch or the cable from the kill switch or start moving wires (esp near the frame rub points) until the lamp goes dim.

Look around your steering stem, or triple tree. Often the wires will rub on something around this area.

Buell -- without trying to sound like a PITA, you've missed something . . . no way the fuse will blow unless there's a short somewhere -- all the usual suspects have been ID'd here . . . keep unplugging stuff til the fuse doesn't blow . . .it's a pain, but the the only recourse you've got

if i unplug the switch coard it doesnt blow when i connect to of them together on the positive and negative with a piece of wire which someone told me to do

try unpluggin the kill switch (not sure what you mean by switch coard) . . . . we're tryin, bro, but it's a lot like calling the doc on the phone and saying "my leg hurts, what's wrong?"

Just to be clear, the kill switch by the right grip is what's causing the fuse to blow, not the keyed switch correct? When you jumped the wires before the switch, did you try to fire the bike? I'm guessing it will run if your fuse didn't blow. That would tell me that your short is internal to the switch. It's not the recommended approach but you could then bypass the switch to get you home. Everyone feel free to disagree, I'm just guessing...

yeah wuts basically happening is that when i turn the key on then turn the kill switch to run it blows right as the starter trys to get power to it and im just trying to bypass it somehow

yeah understand. so basically just reroute the two wire from the kill switch to the fuse box. butttttt wut i dont know of is wut gage wire to use

no -- i'ts unplug the switch, and jumper the connector that DOESN"T lead to the switch (the upstream one) with wire -- paperclip would do, it does'nt carry lots of juice

its when i flip the kill switch to the run position. not when i hit the starter button butttttt remember the key is turned on. and when i flip it from kill to run it pops not when i hit the start button

That's what I thought. So what you're saying is, if you turn on your key, had a bypassed kill switch, hit the starter button, the bike would run, yes? If that's what you're saying, what Bomber is suggesting will work. You just confused me with your post saying "it blows right as the starter trys to get power"

It sounds to me like your short is internal to the switch so rerunning the wires to the switch might not gain you anything.

find the wires going into the kill switch

make sure you have the right ones, as there are more things in there than the kill switch (perhaps open up the switch housing to make sure.

cut the wires leading to the kill switch

find the end of the just made cut that leads back to the engine, not the handlebars

strip the two wires, twist them together, and cover with tape

if it IS the kill switch (you've stated that you've "checked everything" but not told us what you've checked) you should be fine

spend as much time starting at the bike, and thinking about how the power flows through the circuit as you have posting on the board -- the kill switch just cuts the poser needed by the ignition -- if it's shrted to the bars, for instance, it will pop the fuse as you've written

after you get home, read the manual, and think the problem over . . . . .slow down, and don't forget to breath

just made it back home i got my lil project done in about 5 minutes i went to a gas station were there was a mechanics garage and asked them if they could run 1 new wire and thats wut they did. but thanx for all of ur help u guys ill ttyl and seriously thanx bomber.

You need to track it down. If you don't, the area where the short is will continue to rub on the wiring and in all probability will destroy another circuit.

hey everyone goodmorning?

i think my battery has finally taken a dump. it hasnt been changed since i first got the bike which was 3 years ago. but for some reason when i hit start the silinoid inside of the starter chatters? so does that mean my batter is dead. or does it mean something else is wrong. also if the battery is dead and the starter isnt turning. does that mean the spark plugs wouldnt spark because i checked the spark and they were sparking at all. or is that just from the batter being dead and trying to start it and there isnt enough juice in it to spark the plugs

The first step in diagnosing any starting/charging problem is starting with a good known battery. Get the battery tested/charged and then track down any other problems. A multimeter is all you need to see if you have another problem.
