Ok just got out of thr shop it seams that the Po has had issues with the rear head the seat has been dropped out and reinstalled via welding the guide is cracked the exhaust port looks like a sledge hammer hit it not to mention it was machined down to a point of no return! My question we used a mic on both the buell heads and a pair of 883 sportster heads the only diffrence was in the crush area for cumbustion the buell has a lip milled out and has more material in the chamber? These are buell heads it is in the casting so did they use modified 883 heads and could i just use 883 heads to fix it |

Check the IN. and EX. port ID ... Check the valve sizes ... |

Are you saying the heads on the intake and exhaust valves are the same size as the valves in your LIGHTING HEADS ??? |

Yes exactly so why? |

Because the OEM 883 heads had smaller valves, both intake and exhaust and the ports were smaller ... Going up the head levels starts with the 883 heads/pistons, 1200 heads/pistons,BUELL LIGHTING HEADS/pistons(WHAT YOUR 96 S1 came with OEM), BUELL THUNDERSTORM HEADS/pistons(bigger valves & ports), XB9 HEADS(THUNDERSTORM PORTS with small valve stems)/pistons, XB12 HEADS(THUNDERSTORM PORTS with small valve stems/pistons ... You can put XB9 pistons in a XB12 and it up the compression to either 11 or 12 to one compression ratio ... Someone has done some work on the 883 heads if they have the same size valves and ports as your OEM heads ... |

Buellistic, Wasn't the 96 S1 the same as the 95 and 96 S2? Just a plain old Sportster motor? Wasn't the Lightning heads on the 97 and 98's? The T-Storms were on the S1W's? I really don't remember the timelines... I better start writing this stuff down.... Hey Brankin, you out there? Ken, sorry you are having issues. Might be easiest to replace both heads with T-Storms. Another option is to have both heads reworked by a sponsor lie CycleRama or NRHS. So, the S1 is still in Hamel? Brad |

I thought is was like this Stock Sportster. All S2's Lightning heads S1's(excluding S1W) 97 S3's 97-98 M2's Thunderstorm heads S1w 98 & up S3's 99 and up X1 & M2 |

I think i figured it out someone at some time replaced the s1 heads with s2 heads that would explain why the head had damage but nothing else! |

Buells have been out of production since 15 OCT. 2009, THURSDAY which is known as BLACK THURSDAY in BUELLdom !!! There are those on a limited expense account do just get it running thing, which some times they get sold that way ... When you buy a used BUELL you should ask for all paper work on and for the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL and PARTS BOOK if there are any !!! Ask who the previous owner/owners were and try to contact them for "INFO" !!! |

Just to be clear, NRHS is not a sponsor here at this time. I do not want any toes being stepped on. |
