96' S1, I got tired of checking ebay and the like for slip-on's so I hacked my stock muffler for a little sound and a little low end performance. i cut it in two places, the end cap and about 6-10 inches from the back. the first cut i did was the end-cap, which will make for an exit once you make the second cut which detaches the "third turn" of the gas, and also opens the end-cap of the actual header inside the muffler. it is confusing, i know. it sounds pretty good to me, not too loud at idle and cruise speeds but really lets the cell-phone talker next to you know where you are when you open it up. i made a quick hop down the road after the mod before i pulled the intake and exhaust back off for rework, the low end pulled really good, lifting the front wheel much better than before just rolling the throttle  that test drive was with stock airbox and 42 and 160 jets so i didnt drive but a few miles just to hear the pipe ( i know those jets are too lean ), it is torn down now waiting on jets and a carb rebuild kit along with a K&N RD-0720 air filter (open box using stock snorkel with the two holes covered) and new exhaust gaskets. my pics are too big to post, will try and figure it out later. here is a youtube vid from my iphone : <iframe></iframe> if that doesnt work : http://youtu.be/xfDiard3DVs | ||

okay all done with the mod, here is the final product. a little louder than stock and much more power.  | ||

Wow, that looks great! Can you figure out a way to post a sound clip?  To be honest I don't know how... I've been wondering whether what you did was possible. Question answered! | ||

The first post has a link to a YouTube vid of my bike just after the exhaust was welded, it sounds much better in person as I took the vid with my phone. Any questions let me know. |
