Had a grrrrrrrEAT ride yesterday! (think Tony the Tiger when reading great!)

Went up to the Kettle Morrine/Holy Hill area (South Central Wisconsin) with Brer Bill (AKA Outrider), who, having spent the early part of his childhood in that neck of the woods is a living, breathing GPS for great roads in the area. It ain’t the Gap, nor the canyons out by Ferris, but it’s pretty darned respectable for this neck of the woods (and Buell legend has it that the tubers and XB series received a great deal of developmental riding in the area – Road X, Piper Road, and Hogback Road are the reasons that Buells are the way they are, I’m thinking . . . . . )

The roads were clear (ish) of stupid traffic, a couple of folks pulled to the side of the road to allow us to move at a more enthusiastic pace, gravel in few places (although I coulda done without the semi/flatbed combo around the blind corner), and the one tar snake that tried to bite me was defeated (I don’t mind the rear wheel stepping out a little, but when the front drifts 4 or 5 inches, I gets real alert in hurry)

I was blessed to ride with a guy that’s a bit faster than I am, and who’s threat threshold is darned near identical to mine – we romped and played and needed to stop of fuel (both scoots and bodies) at the same times, and just generally had a great day --

While the ride was not a world-beater in any measure, given the many of the other things I’ve been reading on the board lately, I thought I’d share a brief tale of a day that reminded me why I love this activity so much . . ..

Ride safe, grin much

Just wish I could've been along. Sounds like you two had a great day.

Are you making the track day on the 23rd of Aug?
I want to get everyone signed up before I leave on vacation.

My last day at work will be the 27th of July. Penny and I are leaving from Waterloo on the 29th and will be back about the 11th or so.

I am really looking forward to this vacation! Been a very hectic spring/early summer for us.

Riding to Vegas for a couple days, staying at Mandalay Bay resort! Then we are riding up thru Utah and into Idaho, up across Bear Tooth Pass into Montana. Then into Wyoming,South Dakota,Minnesota and back to Iowa.
I can't wait!
I did a complete service on my bike yesterday so both bikes are ready to go.
Only a week and a half to go!!!!

Glad to see that I wasn't the only one that got out and had a great ride yesterday.

I left the house about 7:45 a.m. and returned about 8:45 p.m. Went up to Lake Petenwell, just south of Wisconsin Rapids, to see my wife, daughter and in-laws. They are camping up there until Wednesday.

While I didn't have the curviest of roads, I did manage to limit my freeway time to 1 hour on the way up and 1/2 hour on the way back. It was nice just blasting down some country two lane roads and winding through the small towns.

My bike has been running great since the discovery of the pinched wire at the Bringing it Home event. I did get a little nervous when my trip meter passed 200 miles and my low fuel light hadn't come on yet. Broke down and stopped for gas. I only put 4.5 gallons in and had a 1/2 gallon plus reserve to go!

All in all it was a 332 mile round trip that was worth every second of it.

Yeah, I did manage a short ride yesterday too.
I got the bike done and Penny, Bobbie and I rode to Cedar Rapids so they could have some caffeine sludge.
Only about 125 miles, all 4 lane but what the heck I was on the FLHT anyway so curves aren't that much fun.
Got home and whipped some steaks, turkey broils and bacon wrapped pork chops on the grill for us for dinner.

Dave, If you need a pit stop near Ogden, Ut. on your trip give me a ping on my e-mail. It would be nice to put a face with a name and BS a little. Bob T.

Lolo pass is fun. Probably better before sunset without zillions of bugs though. Long way between gas stations there as well, plus the Res closes early so plan accordingly depending on your direction of travel.

Bomber, glad your weekend ride turned out as planned (or better). Hey, Mike told me he rides and pampers that X1 like a baby! I guess the story changes depending on whether one is looking to ride, or looking to buy

I agree that the SW Kettle Moraine area is great riding and perfect for the Buell.

Fly...You weren't supposed to read that. LOL

The only reason I get to lead is I don't need a map. Not to mention no wheelies, no burnouts, no stoppies and I ran between 3.0 and 4.0K RPM's. Honest Injun. Don't need to beat an X1 to be fast in the twisties.

The only thing Bomber left out was the part where I was laughing so hard at a stop sign my foot slipped and I did some Buell Tipping. Seems running the tight stuff while dodging and sliding in the gravel, tar snakes and road kill gives me a high.

Is also the reason I usually ride alone ( ergo the name "Outrider" ) or with Bomber as I don't want to be responsible for someone else that can't handle the unexpected. We just happen to be two old guys with similar riding skills that like to have fun on occasion.

Bent the shift peg but a new one will be on later today and I will even toss another coat of "Harley Gloss" on it for free before you pick it up this weekend.
