I was thinking of installing one of these bad boys this winter, then saving my old VR as a backup. Anyone had any luck with this product yet?? http://roadstercycle.com/Shindengen%20FH012AA%20Re gulator%20upgrade%20kit.htm |

There is a lot of voltage regulator discussion on the 1125R board, general consensus is to get a unit from Compufire instead of the FH012AA, as the Compufire is a superior unit which will reduce strain on the stator. |

This is the one I was planning on getting: http://roadstercycle.com/Shindengen%20FH012AA%20Re gulator%20upgrade%20kit.htm I haven't looking into the Froggy is talking about ... I will check it out before I make my purchase. |

Compufire didn't make a VR for the Uly when I was looking. I went through 3 VR's on a Harley before buying a Compufire. No more problems after that. I ended up buying an ignition system and coils from them. All great products and extremely high quality and great service. I wish they did have a VR for a Uly, I'd own one! |

Sounds like you can get a Compufire for the 1125, but not the Uly then. On top of it, I've got an 06 which has the 3 phase stator. So I'm back to the Shindengen solid state VR. I could swear someone on this board installed the Shindengen VR and even posted a picture of their install. Hmmm. Thanks for the responses. More to come. |

I was not the first but I installed the Shindengen unit on my 06 and it works. Before my voltage monitor would fluctuate for no apparent reason. Now the voltage is steady all the time. If you want to keep your existing as an easy backup you will also need to get the connectors to mate with the factory harness. |

Not true. Voltage regulators are not bike specific other than connections and wire lengths. There is no 1125 specific unit either, people just replace the connectors. You will have to do the same with the FH012AA unit, so you might as well get a good unit to start with. |

They are sorta specific when the VR is combined with a rectifier to the extent that your rectifier needs at least as many circuits as you have phases. |

Thats no different than getting the right size light bulb. Any R/R with at least 38 amp capacity with 3 phases will work on all 03-07 XB bikes. |

Thanks Frog Man. That's sort of what I was thinking, but I've learned never to question the toot miester. I'll start shopping around for a 3 phase Compufire. Any suggestions who has the best prices out there?? Thanks everyone. |

Yep, similar to a light bulb, but more to it than connections and wire lengths. It is funny though when folks use a single-phase rec on a multi-phase stator and wonder why they have no output. |

When I was looking at a Compufire they had them for sportsters but not a Buell. The mounting holes are different. You could make an adapter I guess but it won't be a bolt on unless they've started making them since I last checked. |

Thanks for chiming in again Tootal. I'm finding the same things on their web site. Nothing for an XB12 that I can tell. Also, while the Compufire seems like a neat idea(shutting off when the battery is charged), I fear though it would be one more way for it to fail. I'm trying to bullet proof my Uly. |

IF I was bullet proofing my Uly and Compufire made one to fit I would own it. Great product and service. I put 100,000 miles on one of their VR's on my Harley after replacing 2 stock ones in 50,000 miles. I sold the bike to a friend and it's still going. |

Update; I wrote to Compufire to ask which VR they have for my 06 Uly, a 3-phase setup. I get an email back with only the part number, 55402. Sent by some guy named Martin. Of course I can't find this part # anywhere on their site or catalog, so I send them another email asking for a spec sheet/link(amps, dimensions), how much, how do I buy it if I can't find it, who's your resellers that might know, etc. I get nothing back, zero, nada, zippo. While they may have a superior product, their customer service is sub par. I mean, here's a guy who wants to buy their stuff and they can't get back to me? Hate to think what would happen if I had a problem with it. The Shindengen is looking better all the time. |

I just now pulled the trigger on a Shindengen kit. I went new although there's a used one here on BadWeB I was considering: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/21/ 657990.html?1320982550 Two stockers in 5 years is enough for me. |

55402 Voltage Regulator - For Compu-Fire 3phase Systems 203.99 http://www.compufire.com/index.php?option=com_cont ent&view=category&layout=blog&id=2&Itemid=6 Nothing else found on site with that number. Search the internet on "55402 Voltage Regulator" and you will find plenty. I saw some prices below $175. even pictures at Dennis Kirk (dennis kirk part number 209632) check out this thread here with heat pictures. http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290431/ 645819.html?1312566505 |

Getting there, puzzling out the mounting, woke up this morning with a or two. I bought this kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-MOTORCYCLE-REGUL ATOR-UPGRADE-KIT-MOSFET-/380347782022?pt=Motorcycl es_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item588e7e9386 The seller was immediate with answers to my questions both before and after sale and shipped it out asap. Very satisfied. The unit is much taller than stock but I've got things figured out now. Components of the kit are high quality and the connectors to the VR appear to be waterproof. The supplied 30A Maxi fuse apparently is too small so I picked up a couple 40A fuses, the holder though is huge so I may opt for a circuit breaker instead. I think I'll use the opportunity to clean things up under the seat anyway with all the extra wiring I've got under there, maybe relocate the ECM too. I'll be posting pics as soon as I get time for the install, next w/e. |

Hey xbimmer, I was thinking of mounting my new VR(when I get it) inside the left side air scoop. It looks like it'd fit. This would afford me the ability to change other things up front, like move the oil cooler(don't like that hanging out the side) or add foot pegs. I know everyone's going to say, "don't block the air flow", but that VR is only an inch thick and I figure the left side is already fighting the smaller right side scoop, so it's negligible. |
