In case anyone out there gets in a pinch, the WIX part # for the Uly oil filter is 51394. Josh |

I don't remember the thread but if you do a search on my user name I attached a long list a month or two back that was given to me containing many different brands as well as the matching part# to fit an XB. I picked up one last minute at Walmart the last time around and then ordered the K&N for the next time. Ordering the K&N from their website is a surprisingly good deal compared to local, but you have to wait a week. |

Good to know! I searched for a while trying to find the WIX part# because I am waiting for my K&N. Figured this info would be useful if someone needed one on the road or something. Thanks. Josh |

Seems IIRC, the Wix and NAPA are the same? I remembered there being more than just a very similar part number (51394 vs 1394) in common there. This is recalled info from an oil filter discussion several years ago. |

Be careful with that list, just because an automotive filter fits does not mean it will work! |

K&N would be my first pick. I've never had a problem with motorcraft or WIX, the only one that has crapped out on me was a Fram, never buying one of those again! Josh |

I noticed one day that my Harley filter looked identical to my purolator filter for my SUV. I took a magnifying glass and the stamping looked identical. They were made in the same machine. I've been using the Purolator ever since. Now I get the Uly and changed to the Purolator. What I have found is that the small filter on the Uly will not go 5000 miles. Right around 4000 miles my oil pressure light would start coming on at idle and I would have to rev it up to get it to go out. I changed the oil and filter and 4000 miles later it was flashing the oil pressure light again. The filters are filling up and then when the oil gets hot the pump is not putting out enough pressure to cause the filter to bypass at idle. The problem is I don't want the filter to bypass either. The cure is to change the filter more often. This Thunderstorm engine seems to run a lot dirtier than anything else I own. So it's back to 3000 mile changes instead of 5000, but with 2.5 quarts in the Uly compared to 5 in the Harley I guess that makes sense. |

Toyota Prius filter fits also. Though, I have only used Buell filters on our Buells. I'd like to use that Toyota filter on the Buell but have no idea what the spring constant of the spring it uses or the filter media or the pressure drop across the filter. The Toyota brand filter is under 6 bucks and as far as looks, it looks very well made and even has a peel off plastic so dust doesn't get into it during storage. |

I just looked up the bypass pressure on the purolator and it is 14-18 lbs. What's the Buell filter set at? |

I agree, at 2.5 quarts, the oil must be changed often. Josh |

WIX and Purolator both make fine filters. I use the WIX in my Buell and usually a Purolator in my cars. If it is listed by the manufacturer for the Buell application, I would have no problem using it. The L14476 is listed as applicable for the Buell as is the WIX 51394. If the manufacturer does not list the application, I will not use it. |

Wix makes NAPAs filters. I get a NAPA # 21394 filter for $2.87 after tax at my local store. It's an excellent filter for less than half of what the MoCo gets. |

I have used the NAPA version of the WIX filters on occasion. I am fortunate because I have a great auto parts store 2 miles from my house that stocks WIX filters, Amsoil MC Engine Oil, Redline MC Engine Oil and Redline 75W90 GL-5 Gear Oil. I do not have to worry about running around or shipping for lube and filters. |
