I would appreciate feedback from the experts here on a problem with my 2008 Blast - I am new here and hope this is the correct place. I purchased the bike about 6 months ago with less than 600 miles on it and have since added another 1300 miles. The engine has always been pinging noticeably even though I am using premium gas. For example, when I cruise at 30 to 35 mph in third gear – that’s simply going at constant speed/partial load – the pinging is very obvious. My gas consumption has also been fairly high – in the order of 30 mpg, i.e. nowhere near the claimed 60 mpg. I am not a racer but I am not exactly going slow either – and I do know that the Blast engine wants to be revved. Back in August, at around 1000 miles, I had the bike for its first service with the local H-D dealer but nothing’s changed in terms of the pinging. Now last week things all of a sudden got worse. When I cruise at 50 mph in fourth the engine starts losing power. When I pull the clutch it will stall but shifting down into third and letting the clutch go it will start again. Then everything is back to normal for a while. There’s no problem at idle, e.g. waiting at lights. The engine nicely ticks over although every now and then I notice that the revs drop momentarily but then go back to normal. Before I take the bike back to the dealer I’d be grateful for some expert advice as to what might be the problem with my bike. |

I'll try and get started here, but you may want to take this to the Thumper part of the forum where the guys there deal only with the Blast. Do you still have the stock exhaust? Is the clutch safety switch still hooked up. The symptoms you are saying sound like these things may be effecting the performance. If the carb is jetted or adjusted to lean, you'll get a ping. If the clutch safety switch is going out, it will restrict performance. The kickstand safety switch as well. |
