In April, the stator was replaced and from then on without warning the bike after 30km of constant riding would cutout for 1-2 seconds. Took it back 4 time and no fault found. The shop used a data logger, many kms and then finally put back the noid to reproduce the problem. There are no codes, lights or any indication what so ever. It seems to happen under coasting speed b/w 3750 and 4500 rpm. Bit by bit, TPS, injectors, O2 sensors, fuel pressure all checked out ok. Another two ECMs were put in but could not communicate, so HD recommended a main harness replace. There is none available, so the engine was pulled out and the earth to the cylinder ECM2 was slightly frayed and repaired. The shop never put back their ECM, but the problem did not re-occur with my ECM. So after a full 3 month of being off-road, I picked her up and after 4 days of city riding the problem re-occurred today. Riding at 60-70kms in 3 rd gear, it bucks not coughing just dying in an instant, like the fuel or ignition shutoff, no warnings. It does this for a km or 2 and but to normal. I'm at a complete loss to understand what the problem is and why it can't be fixed. Parts are only replaced one at time. A mate suggested they replace the engine since everything else was replaced. Any advice? Should I be beating down the door of HD? |

Get a GoPro camera, record it. Show them what it's doing and when. |

Sounds like a crank position sensor problem. Mine did that only after riding for a while then it would buck like that. Mine eventually threw a code for it though |

Definitely electrical related. If I were in your shoes, I would take all the plastic off the bike and trace every single harness wire back and forth and make sure every ground, every fasteners, every connector is good and tight and has no fraying or broken connection. I'm sure your dealer is at a loss as well. If it throws no codes, they have no clue. You have to pretend you're Sherlock Holmes on these types of problems. Eliminate the possibilities one by one in the end all you will have left is the truth. In addition, don't be afraid to go over the same areas that has already been inspected. Things can be missed the first or even 2nd time. (Message edited by rogue_biker on September 29, 2011) |

something gets warm and disconnects: over in the Stator thread - some reports about changing out a relay - there is a relay with the "harness fix/upgrade" for 2009 bikes - it sounds like HD went low cost and the HD part is not very "consistent" with making connections (you may want to search "starter relay")...there is also a relay "box" in the tail section near the battery (-) post. In the box are (4) relays: (3) are white and (1) is black...there are also reports in the stator thread about changing out the "black" relay and replacing it with a "better" quality relay to increase charging voltage...(?) - I have replaced the stock (OEM)Tyco (made in Mexico) black relay with another brand (Echlin AR606? made in China from NAPA auto parts)...the contact blades on the Echlin part are a little bit wider but fit into the socket on the bike well. the Echlin part is for headlight control on autos. (yes... charging voltage at idle does seem higher) This OEM relay "seems" to have a history of failures as it is used on HD's V-Rod line and that model has starting issues linked to this relay...hope this helps...good luck 'mate |

Had a problem that sounds similar soon after taking delivery. I'd be buzzing down the freeway, then suddenly, nothing. Ignition would quit at 75 mph. A second or two would pass, then back to full power. Freaky when you're between two semi's. Happened a few times. Finally threw a theft code error. Turned out it was a short in the harness (traced to one of the feeds to the ECU. New harness under warranty and a few weeks later I was good to go. No problems since. |

Does it only happen in 3rd gear? If so and if you said the throttle control solenoid was replaced, I'm thinking that there might be some anomaly happening that's activating the noid at the wrong conditions. Perhaps disconnecting the wires to the noid might prevent the problem from occurring? And if it does, then the hunt can start for what is causing the anomalous tripping. |

Stirz007, thanks and exactly what I had, albeit a big SUV. Eventually, I got a 338 error which is crank angle. Can you remember the code? They told me there are no harnesses available. |
