Last sunday I drove 500 km from my hometown (Matera, in southern Italy) to Campagnano, near Rome, where is one of the most famous italian racetracks: Vallelunga. On monday I attended the one-day long "Top Drive" course. In the afternoon I had the opportunity of driving my R on the track, following a professional instructor for about one and half hours. What a great experience. The most important things: proper trajectories, and sighting. Look far, and use the whole track ("use the curbs" and "the curbs are good!"). The bike did just great: the tires show some significant wear on the sides but the grip was fantastic. A really great bike. And the day after, 500 more km to go back home. I had to stop every 100-120 km to drink water, but everything went perfect and the riding comfort was good. (Message edited by gpb on September 07, 2011) |

COOL!I have been prepping Peggy for my first track day on this bike and it has been a while.I can't wait!Still looking for some parts in the mail and some of them should be here tomorrow.I got carbon fiber case guards from Erik Buell Racing and front and rear axel sliders and some grip pads coming from American Sportbike. She is officially not street legal after tonight. |

I should be on the left just after you make the corner into the pit area. You're welcome to join me there, if there's a spot open. |

MAde the track day today at Beaver Run.What a blast!!!I went ahead and signed up for the roadrace school and it was well worth the extra $40.00.I had my own personal instructor all day(thanks Andrew)and when we came up on a slower group they just waved us by.Lost the front end in the last session before lunch and had a low side.Twisted my anlkle but with the help of a fellow Badwebber(thanks YSracer),who is stinking fast BTW,I was able to get Peggy patched up well enough to pass tech inspection and finnish the day and get my certificate.Might get to go again next week end if the ankle will be OK.I love this bike on the track and I hate to say it but I can testify that the CF case guards from Erik Buell Racing do indeed work as advertized.Best I can figure I was doing around 60 mph or so and the clutch side looks like it could handle one more trip down the track like that. From the looks of it a puck wouldn't have worked.JMHO.If you like speed you need to get to a track ASAP! |

NM5150, Glad you had a good time and hope you become a MotoSeries regular. Andrew is a great instructor. YSracer, I think I had the chance to speak with you as we waited in pit lane to go out in the advance sessions. I was on the yellow SV #123. (I know Mr. Buell wants to visit the track, but I can't bear the thought of wadding him up. I'm pretty good at wadding up bikes on the track as Sunday's racing proved) |

Nm, nice to meet you and sorry about the crash.... Good that you weren't hurt and the bike was able to finish the day. Give it another go next week Ogobracing, yep, that was me. Sorry I didn't get a chance to stop by your pit and chat some more. Hope to see you again, any chance you'll come back this Sunday ? |

Ysracer, I think my season ended Sunday. The race bike needs some work, including a radiator, my leathers need repaired, although duct tape my get me through another weekend, but I broke a couple of ribs. I'm not sure how long that will take. I do plan on trying to see I can ride one of the street bikes next weekend. |

YS thanks for all of the help.I ain't real sorry about the crash because now I know when to say when and BTW I never said it didn't hurtI ordered the parts I need to ride plus some frame protectors from American Sportbike and they just called me and told me I ordered the wrong ones and would send me the right ones. Now that is service!Ogobracing,I hope to meet you Saturday and am sorry to hear about the ribs.If I were mean I would say something funny right nowLooking forward to next week end and am thinking about trying to get Peggy ready for the race next month just so I can try not to be last.I have to figure some way to wrap a pan around that Drummer. |
