A few years ago I purchased a Hawk GT. It had been tastefully updated with CBR suspension, petal brakes, electronic gauges etc. The Hawk was an advanced package in 1989. But brakes, suspension and electrics are all better today. The updates really brought it into the 21st century. I miss my old tubers. (I owned 3) But not some of the issues they had. I was thinking it might be possible to do something similar. Adopt some later technology and bring a solid, but getting dated, bike into the 21st Century. If Buell were building a tuber today, what updated technology would they use? Gauges from the Uly? Later shocks and forks? Later motor? Your thoughts? M |

A superduke R as pictured above would be the natural progression of a tuber |

Holy crap, I didn't know KTM made a naked tuber. Anyone have any info on these things? |

Gauges from the Uly? On a tuber, surely you jest. What if I told you that gauge design had originally been intended to be on a tuber? In 2000 or 2001 the S3 was supposed to grow into the S4 - which also had a front fairing and windscreen design that would put any BAW any Uly has had to shame... The Uly/XB gauges were intended for the S4, but when the S4 was cancelled the gauges ended up being relegated to the next platform - the XB's. Seriously though, I've had similar thoughts about making an 'updated' tuber starting with an S2 (I know, some think this is a sacrilege...) and updating what I felt was the best of the tuber updates. Your plan kind of sounds like the Aussie S1 from a couple of years back in some respects - Joesbuell, IIRC. I now return you back to your normal thread, 1313 |

I'd like to build an updated S2 some day as well, with polished 1190RR wheels and brakes and loads of Carbon Fiber . |

Let's see, how was that put a while back? Remove the gas cap, drive a naked 1190 underneath it and replace gas cap? |

I think that might be the "convert 1125r to 1190rs" solution too. |

I agree with 1313 and that is what I first thought of when I saw this thread. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/414693.html |

Thanks champ: I was probably imprecise in my post. The links you and 1313 provided are what I was thinking. Preserving the best of an S2/S3 while upgrading some of it's parts. I was not joking about putting an electronic gauge package on the bike. I have a Koso on the 1989 Hawk (see pic) and it's wonderful. No more broken cables.

That's a great looking bike--coulda' been factory made. While I appreciate the technology in the XB and 1125 frames, I've always preferred naked tube frames over beam construction. It just looks right to me: TL1000S vs TL1000R Ducati Monster previous and current generation (subframe is cast). Evolving in the wrong direction IMO:

I believe MOTUS is a tuber isn't it? If and when they release a naked model I may have to sell off a couple of body parts to get one, along with Erik's naked 1190RS. |

think a uly with a tube frame and various model-suspension options, sport, touring, dual sport .and of course the big bore for those wanting/needing more, or less depending on your preference IE desired stroke/rpm range. |
