Hey I just broke mine an hour ago. I PM'd Tootal and see if there is a response. Came to a stop sign and the throttle didn't spring back down and the RPM's stuck at 2500.
I was lucky enough to realize what just happened. it was the cable the spring or the shaft that broke. I didn't touch the throttle and feathered the clutch another 4 miles. Opened the air box and the shaft was broke and lucky me the screw was still in the TB toward the rear cylinder.

I'm here, just been really busy lately. Preparing for a three week trip to Newfoundland. I've been having intake seal problems on the Geezer Glide for years and just found the issue. My high dollar performance air cleaner backing plate was machined wrong and was forcing the manifold toward the front cylinder putting everything in a bind and distorting the seals!!! I put the stock air cleaner on and one more set of seals and lo and behold it's not leaking!! I just put on a K&N air cleaner kit and it works great. So much for the high dollar POS!
There, I feel better now.

As far as the throttle shafts, I was going to make an assembly thread and announce the availability of them but I've had two guys that PM'd me saying their down so I will get those out ASAP. I will still make an official announcement in the near future, just wanted to let you know I'm still here.

Thanks, Tootal. I'm still hoping to fix my original throttle body (failed at 82k miles) and have it ready to go when the replacement breaks (12k miles on second TB). Every time I hear of another one breaking I cringe a little.

Dave and Dave, your's are on the way. Anybody else broke down? I have this week and then I'm gone for a while. When I return I will make the assembly thread and make a formal announcement.

Let me know what you need from me to get the ball rolling.

Thanks!

@Tootal: Many thanks, having a background in manufacturing I know how much work that tb shaft is (it looks like about 20 machining operations, not including the time for reverse engineering, etc.)

Here's some links to pictures of the new shaft installed:

throttle position sensor side view of throttle body:

spring side view (nut is not tightened yet)

As you can see it is excellent in design, fit and quality, and I have no doubt it will hold up better than the original. Also considerably cheaper than a $400 complete throttle body.

What did you use to swage the back of the screws that attach the plate to the TB shaft? I am afraid of damaging the shaft or bushings, even if I try to support it from the other side. Do you think high temperature loctite will hold up if I tighten the crap out of the screws (it is above the injectors and I have a breather reroute so only outside air should be going by).

p.s. -- Sorry about the double post if you read this already. I originally posted in the archives ... there is a big thread there, but I don't think many read it.

Red loctite might work fine. Don't tighten too tight, that's only a 3mm screw. My plan is to spin it around and back the shaft up with a rod of some sorts. Maybe a rod in a vise? Bring the rod up through the discharge until it's backing up the shaft. Just use a center punch and hit the center of the screw enough to flair it slightly. This is how the originals are put in. If that's not easily done then loctite would be much better than nothing. When I get around to mine I will see how difficult it is and see what I come up with.

Looks good, thanks for being the guinea pig!

Alright... this just happened to me. I'm in need of what you've got. Please PM me and let me know what I need to do to get your replacement part.

PM sent. I survived Newfy and my Harleys downfalls and have arrived home today. I will get on the shaft project ASAP. Thanks for all your patience.

Great news everyone that needs to do this fix,

You don't need to pull the throttle body off the bike to replace the rod (given the right tools and only proven on the 2007 XB12R). If damaged or lost the circular bracket that the cables go around can be ordered through Buell for around $16 and the nut that holds it on is $0.50.

Bad news, if you need a replacement spring that brings it back to idle, that is part of the +$400 throttle body unit.

Anyone have any ideas on getting a hold of just the spring?
