Hi from Poland, I've got a problem, my voltage regulator is broken. I'm on a trip, and only what i've got for spare is 38 amp Softail regulator ( http://www.debrix.com/Voltage-Regulator-w-38-Amp-A lt-01-06-Softail-p/ac201126c-mca.htm ), could I change switches, and use it for spare, for some time? Do anyone knows that it is three phase like in my XB9R? |

Yes it is 3 phase. The Buell regulator is also 38 amp. |

Thanks for quick answer As I see, it has 5 cables as my "old" buell VR, the same connector for three cables, only i have to do is make '77 connector for last two cables, am I right? So, could I use it for spare, to finish trip, and go back home? PS, sorry for mistakes in language, i don't practice it for a long time |

If you can make the '77 connector then yes it can be used for spare. |

Problem again. I put new 01-06 Softail VR, and it works, but not at all. On neutral gear bike work as normal from low to hi RMP, charging system is working ect, but when i put first gear, and try to run, bike dies. Red light start to glow and it cuts off the ignition. Any suggestions? Is it bad VR, or i did something wrong with electrical system? EDIT: And one more, when I put first gear, hold cluch, and pull throttle, bike goes on higer RMP with no problem. Only when I relase clutch, bike dies. (Message edited by Kezzerdrix on August 17, 2011) |

Is the bike having trouble starting? Do you have a way to check the battery voltage when you go from low to high rpm? |

Losing ignition when letting the clutch lever out in gear is symptomatic of a problem with the ignition interlock circuit. It has nothing to do with the VR. It could be 1) a bad sidestand switch, 2) one of the diodes in the wire harness is reversed or defective, 3) a broken wire or bad connection in the interlock circuit. I'd focus on the sidestand switch as the main culprit. Try disconnecing the switch from the harness and jumpering the two wires together from the harness. The ignition signal completes a ground path through the switch to make the ignition work. If the switch is bypassed by jumpering it, the bike will should run but it will be without the safety factor of knowing the sidestand is up, so be careful when taking off from a stop henceforth. |

No problem with starting engine, even in first gear + clutch. When I try to move bike from first gear, release clutch, it does not die at once, but it lower RPM, and usually dies, but sometimes it runs, but fuel burn in exhaust, so engine interrupt, and usually dies before one mile. Battery is charged, and voltmeter shows that battery is charged, and it is charging at higher RPM, as my mechanic said. "Sparky" thanks, it could be that, i'll check next evening. But before, any more suggestions? Everybody thanks for help! And again, sorry for bad language, misunderstanding. |
