It's a pain in the butt to remove the muffler to drain the primary, so I don't. I curse the Buell engineers every time I change the fluids on my bike. Nothing is easy on a tuber. |

Sgtshap, Get a shop manual and you can usually just remove the straps and front mounting bolt to get the muffler down a bit. I see in another thread that your muffler strap broke - it is critical to get the exhaust mounted correctly on these things or else you'll be in for lots of problems. The old-style front muffler hanger had one bushing, the later ones have two which is the way to go. For the primary, once you get the shop manual you might want to pull the cover and put in the latest adjusting shoe as the early ones were prone to break in two. I curse the Buell "engineers" all the time, too! |

i use mobile 1 20w50 in my transmission same as the oil, on my s1 works good |

when im the ruler of the world im going to make EVERY engineer work a MINIMUM of two years on whatever their designing before they can make the first sketch!!!!BASTARDSSSSSSSSSS. its obvious they hate common sense and mechanics. i vote on calling the plug "Anna L. Plug" (wait for it.......youll get it) (and by that i mean Understand.) |

Hands down I would rather work on my tuber then my zx-10, changing the oil on the zx-10 you have to disassemble the filter from the bolt and the backing plate all well it's dripping oil all over the exhaust |

Yeah anyone complaining that the tuber is hard has never worked on a Triumph t595 This is the easiest of 5 bikes ive owned. Its all a tight fit, but its not bad. Think of it like this, had I not had to remove the muffler to drain the primary, I would have never known I had a blown out pipe. |

Huh. All my Buell mufflers clear the drain plug. That's why they're all "dented" on top from the factory - at least, all my stock and Buell Race cans are I added a "dent" to a D&D on a friends M2, too. No muffler removal required....just clean it off good when you're done or you have the go-go-gadget smokescreen until all that primary fluid burns off! |

Yep removing three bolts and a clamp for a muffler is hard But if the Muffler wasn't where it was they you guys would be bitchin about it lookin like a cookie cutter Sport Bike. Can't win with any of you! Jeeez |

It's a pain in the ass compared to my previous XB. Yes, the exhaust can is dented. It's just a pain in the ass to get my fat greasy fingers in there. I was just spoiled with the next generation Buells enhancements. |

So far I've found my tuber to be extremely easy to work on... of course I haven't had to put it back together yet...

Addressing the original question !!! It is not good maintenance policy to remove the muffler to properly get to the drain plug or the primary adjuster ... "WHY" you ask, well the exhaust system is stressed enough without causing more problems ... Remove it once and put dimples in muffler so you can get to the primary adjuster and drain plug ... EXHAUST ASSEMBLY Class 101, just PM me if you want a copy ... |

what stress? What is causing the "Stress"? What failures occur due to this "Stress" Seeing As I have removed mufflers dozens of times, no issue. Maybe your 101 needs an update on correct installation procedures... |

i remove my muffler everytime, a few bolts and its off, pretty simple. I dont really want to coat the muffler in oil either. |

I am so fraking GLAD that i removed the muffler to drain primary. I found that my exhaust has been broken, hanging on by the back bolt. Would have never known otherwise. PLUS, I found another issue. see "Sgt Shaps Problem of the day" thread. |

I just take the derby off and use a turkey baster to take the old oil out and put the new oil in the primary. And I use Amsoil Race 60 weight. |

I wouldn't trust a pump or turkey baster to get all the metal shavings and other crap out, like you get out when you take the plug out Just sayin' |
