I want to do the reset today, but since I've never attempted anything like this, not to mention that I am a bit lost, I thought I'd ask for help. Here's what I understand so far: 1. I've got to loosen the sensor so I can adjust it. 2. I have to disconnect the light blue wire from the harness (pin 3). Here I am confused. I have to disconnect the wire, but from which half of the harness? The one that goes to the carb? 3. I have to bare the black wire (pin 5)and the light blue wire (pin 3). But wasn't I supposed to disconnect this wire? Why would I bare it? Furthermore, the manual verifies that the wire in pin 5 is the black one (BK), so for sure I have to bare the black one, but the wire in pin 3 is listed as the light blue one, yet in parenthesis it states the wire in pin 3 is V/W. Is that violet white? I'm lost here. 4. Once these wires are bared, I have to tape my meter points to them and then adjust until my reading is 0.5V +/-0.05V. |

Bring idle adjustment all the way in, then pin 3 from the main harness side per instructions is removed,then on the carb side of the harness bare the black and V/W, then proceed. When done try to readjust your idle to 1000to1200 rpms. EZ |

Ok. Finally got around to resetting the TPS, but I'm stuck again. Also I had some trouble while on a backroads drive. My carb started leaking and the bike wouldn't start (not that I would want to drive it while it leaked fuel, anyway). I ended up having to walk it to a friend's house. While there I read through the forums and read a thread about someone whose float became stuck and they had the same leaking problem. So I decided to check if I my float was stuck. I removed the float bowl and float seemed normal. I removed the jets to check for debris. The needle jet had some debris, but it did not seem enough to cause the leak. I put the jets back on and then I replaced the float bowl, airbox, etc. I turned the fuel valve to ON and voila! No more leak. I was pleasantly surprised because I did not feel I had done anything. And, in light of this issue I wanted to ask: What causes the float to get stuck? I want to know so I can prevent the problem from happening again. Now, back to the TPS. I followed the instructions EZ posted and while I was still a little doubtful I thought I had sufficient info between the forum and the manual. So I did everything I had to do and when I had my meter points taped to the wires I set the key to the ON position and turned on my multimeter. But I keep getting a reading of 0.00V. It doesn't move from there. I might have stripped and placed the meter points on the wrong wires, so I'm putting this picture(s) here so you can see exactly what I'm looking at and you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Also, this is a stupid question, but I'm supposed to be measuring DCV right? Sorry guys, I'm no good at this.
I stripped the BK and V/W wires here. And the Light Blue wire is disconnected.
And here are my meter points taped on. |

Did you turn the bike ignition on (not the motor)? and first I would unplug my light. EZ |

Yeah, the light is unplugged. I started unplugging it when I know I'll be cranking it repeatedly since Erik suggested it a while back. I have not tried to start the bike's engine since the carb is not even plugged. I found it easier to work with the carb disconnected. I can't adjust the TPS if I can't reach it, so I'm working with it off. But that leads me to another question: How am I supposed to be adjusting the TPS? I can only move, or adjust, the TPS so far. And these adjustments seem minuscule. I tried the adjustments while the meter points were on and I saw no difference in the reading. Still 0.00V. |

Try with key on, pluged in except for wire removed from harness, then test. Easiest would have been to scribe where old was set and put new exactly in place - as many do for the ignition. EZ |
