Dyna Jet kit
Their latest response - And my last letter -

Your kit instructions are incorrect for a Blast. Pure and simple. I don't know what aftermarket parts you used but they had to be bad parts or a bad carb. I'm writing this because I have specialized in this bike since its inception, and the only time I had to jet lower was when using a custom hi-comp. piston matched to the heads squish band, the rest of the time I jetted higher. Don't know or care where you got your information, its wrong pure and simple. NHRS, Terry Parsley, Bill Werner of Buell/HD dirt-track race team head mechanic, any of the other HD performance shops, or myself will tell you the same thing - you have to jet higher with most common modifications. Sincerely, Edward Zick AKA ezblast

That may be the case when using the OEM jets and needle. With the Dynojet components the settings in the jet kit instructions are correct.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Thank You!

Actually no. Further proof of this is your own instructions for the Buell twins which implies the correct jetting procedure. A person almost lost their motor, brand new rebuild, following your instructions - pinging all over the place, I halted his actions, and still using your kit, rejetted to a higher value, the slow to 45, and the main to a 170 the needle clip set to .05 up from your suggested stock position. This was for a piston designed for the head, matching the squish band allowing higher compression and better gas mileage - unlike the generic sportster piston the stock bikes use, On regular jetting for a Kehin - the jetting would have been the simular for this set up 45/165 - the lower jetting from a matched piston/head combo. I have studied your kit for years, and have helped others tune with it, however, I have used the twin instructions for a guideline, not the erroneous single's instructions.
Sincerely,
Edward Zick

Again the same thing almost happened - person complained of low top end, and a tinkling sound - using your specs 42 slow jet and 150 main - running a stack intake and a V&H exhaust - I get enough of these, and I'll have the folks get together for a class action lawsuit - review your procedure, compare it to the Buell twins, the Blast is half a twin motor de-stroked, its instructions should reflect theirs.

Thank you for the information. I will get a bike in a recheck the jet kit setting.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Thank You!

I've been deeply involved on several different forums saving several 515cc kits and regular modified Blasts due to their erroneous instructions. Finally I had enough different examples that they are going to review their kit for the Blast - about time! I now know way more about their kit than I ever wanted - lol

Nice work EZ! You do know way to much for a kit you'll probably never use!!

Yes - but others still insist on using the kits, so now I know the following - their needle is fatter and shorter, their jets are actually one size down from the stock jets they are numbered after - aka a 170 is really a 165, and their emulsion tube is a bit longer - nothing you can't work with as long as you know what your working with - sigh - but their instructions are still all wrong.

EZ,

It's been two years - did Dyna Jet provide any more information or do anything as a result of this process?

I ask because my (new to me) Blast has been rejetted with a kit (I just found this out) - so I need to figure out what to do. I run a K&N air filter and V&H Pipe. The header is also titanium wrapped.

Jay

Just following up on this thread - what I did (took three tries before finding the right combo) was this:

Pilot Jet - 45

Needle - 4 clips out (vice the 3 in the instructions)...so 1 clip fatter...

Main jet - 170 (Dyno Jet's 170 with the longer emulsion tube).

Bike is a new bike, now - running much better, cooler, and with a full power band in each gear. Still getting 70-72 mpg for highway driving as well.
