I had to take my bike in to the dealer to take care of a CEL/low fuel light that came on intermittently. Ended up being the sending unit but they had to replace the whole fuel pump. While it was in there I had them tighten my stator nut, since it was starting to get louder. They just finished both of those yesterday after being in the shop for two weeks. Now it looks like I won't be riding much this summer as there is another noise in the top end of the rear cylinder and they are going to rotate the motor down to look into it. Has anyone had this problem? Should I be hoping that my valves are loosening up prematurely? Has anybody else had a similar problem? Oh, they are also waiting on the harness upgrade parts to come in, and say that this helps charging, but I thought I had read on here that that makes it worse? It's an 09 CR. |

How many miles do you have on your 09? |

I wonder if I could have gotten 7k out of the stator if I hadn't had the charging harness done at 3. Do you have a video of this sound? is it only at idle? Someone had a cam follower? break and cause noise. Not sure if that's what it was called, but it was part of the valve train. |

The noise I took it in for was described here as the stator nut being improperly torqued. It was similar to running something against the fins of a radiator, and was the worst at 5k rpm. They actually found another noise in the top end with their electronic listening device while checking after fixing the stator. I can't say I've ever heard this one, but it's hard to tell cause this thing has always sounded like shaking a sack of nails. Not sure if it is related to the harness at all, but I have never had a single problem with the charging system, and most of those 7k miles were in or around the city, lots of stop and go and short trips. |

It ended up being both the exhaust valves being out of spec. (too much play) I figured I would have to wait for shims to be ordered, probably several times, but the tech was checking part numbers while I was there and it looks like the 1125 uses the same shim kit as the vrod. This might be the first time they ever had a part I needed in stock. Still going to have to wait for the head gasket and charging harness though. Also considering changing spark plugs prematurely while it's all ripped apart. What does everyone think about that? Looks like I might be able to do some riding soon! Also I've never been impressed by my dealer, but they do have one guy named Tim who knows his stuff and is very nice. He took the time to explain a bunch of stuff and was very helpful. He also wrapped up my exhaust so I could take it with me and repaint it myself since harley refused to repair the extensive corrosion on it. |

Xbniner - plugs for sure. get your exhaust ceramic coated to keep the heat away from you and the bike. |
