So two weeks ago I pulled the trigger on a babied 09 1125R. The bike was broke in properly and I bought it with 1400 miles. I have put on over 550 miles and started to notice a bit of lifter/valve train noise much like that of 60 Minutes (tic tic tic tic). After I started to hear the noise I checked the oil and it was a bit down, problem.... I was 100 miles away from home and being Sunday no oil to add (not wanting to put in generic auto oil from a gas station) The noise is very pronounced at 3,000 to 3,500 revs. So to the 1125 gurus is this an oil problem and if it is what damage could have been done? If not an oil problem what could it be? |

It is difficult to get a proper oil reading on the 1125, the tech that serviced it could have not put enough oil in the bike, and then not checked it properly. Most people on here have reported engine noise when the oil is low. See if it goes away when you get the oil to the right level. If you are worried you can do a compression leak down test, but that will cost some $$$. I doubt you damaged it, just get the oil level right and have fun, but if you are really worried, keep track of how much you add, if you have to add more then 1 quart, then you are probably in trouble. |

Change your own oil so you are have a known amount to start with. Learning to check the oil is different, there is a cold check and a hot check. Most folks go straight to the hot check. Do you have the owners and service manuals? The owners manual says 2.7(?) quarts, put in three. |

If you do the oil change correctly(leaning bike over to get as much oil out as possible)2.7 qt.won't even register. |

it could be normal. my engine sounds like a bunch of marbles grinding away inside. i beat the heck out of and don't worry about it. far as lifters go, aren't these solid tappet design? no lifters right? shims |

I gave up on trying to check the oil level on my '08. I just let it drain thoroughly when changing it, and then pour in 3 quarts. If the oil light comes on under hard braking, I know that I need to add about 1/4 of a quart. (So far I haven't ever needed a between-oil-change top-off, I just noticed the low-oil light under braking after getting the bike back from having the clutch weep fixed, and adding 1/4 of a quart made the light stop appearing. I'm guessing that a little oil leaked out when the clutch cover was removed and the tech didn't bother to add any to replace it.) (Message edited by thefleshrocket on June 15, 2011) |

I can't tell you what your bike sounds like mine sounds like a WWI plane or a really big sewing machine all the time. If I am not sure on oil I just change it as well. Then I know the correct amount is in there |
