My nostalgia for my old Thunderbolt got the better of me, and I just put a deposit on a fellow BadWeb inmate's 2001 S3. The new bike will be #4 in the garage, and my lovely wife has informed me in no uncertain terms that four is too damn many. And, truth be told, I'm not the hooligan I used to be; this bike should be ridden by someone who's going to use the edges of the tires more than I do. The good: - Barker exhaust & Erik Buell Racing ECM get rid of the stock bike's low RPM bad manners. - Updated the front brake with a Brembo radial master cylinder that provides noticeably better feel than the stock Nissin. - Ceramic headers, Gripster pads and some heat tape inside the frame keep the engine heat manageable while sitting in traffic. - American Sport Bike bar risers and lower Firebolt pegs make the bike more comfortable around town. - Replaced stock mirrors with Firebolt mirrors and rerouted the turn signals to bright amber LEDs where the running lights used to be. Got sick of looking at my elbows. - Michelin Pilot Power 2CT tires with about 750 miles on them, installed last August. The bad: My garage is a dangerous place; the bike lost an argument with the minivan (don't ask) and suffered a tipover on the left side. The only evidence of the disagreement are some scratches on the axle sliders and a small ding on the frame that's currently hidden by the Buell frame pucks. (Really wish I'd put them on earlier.) Also, the swingarm is a bit scuffed up -- there are a couple of scratches from a poorly-maneuvered wheel stand and a scuff mark on the right side from my riding boot. I attempted to clean off the boot marks and managed to make it worse. All cosmetic, but there you go. Current mileage is a little over 6200, and may go up a tiny bit in the next few weeks depending on how much seller's remorse I start feeling. Bike is located in Aurora CO, just 20 minutes away from the Denver airport (hint hint!) I have a Craigslist ad up locally, and I'm asking $7500 in that ad; that seems to be in the ballpark for local 1125Rs. Make me an offer if you disagree! If I don't get a buyer at or near my asking price I'll consider selling some of the aftermarket stuff separately. Toss me an email if you have any questions and I'll regale you with boring 1125R stories until you fall asleep. I've put up a bunch of additional pictures in this PhotoBucket album including closeups of the swingarm scratches. I can take additional photos if there's something specific you want to see. I put all my bike-related purchases into a spreadsheet and nearly had a heart attack when I realized I've bolted more than $4000 of crap to this poor bike. I think I've singlehandedly put at least one of Al Lighton's kids through college. Here's the full list of aftermarket stuff, in general order of interest: Barker exhaust, with 1" and 1.5" quiet cores Erik Buell Racing Race ECM with Barker-specific tune Erik Buell Racing targeted fuel injectors Ceramic coated headers in silver, from American Sport Bike Brembo 18x20 radial front brake master cylinder (noticeably better feel than stock) Rizoma front brake reservoir & bracket Firebolt touring seat Buell factory fairing lowers American Sport Bike bars with 1" rise over stock Pazzo shorty clutch lever Buell heated grips Evotech tail tidy Gripster grip pads on the frame & the air cleaner cover Buell smoke windshield Dark Horse Moto axle sliders, front & rear Firebolt pegs, 1" lower than stock Buell frame pucks K&N air filter Firebolt mirrors (turn signals are rerouted to the running lights and equipped with amber LEDs) American Sport Bike quick release seat pins De-noided with the Buell resistor Cheapo voltage indicator on dash! Woo hoo! Other stuff not attached to the bike that I'll throw in: Passenger pegs American Sport Bike 1125R/XB fiberglass tail cowl (replaces rear seat) Stock exhaust Stock Nissin front brake master cylinder with Pazzo shorty lever Stock ECM Stock seat Firebolt Kick Ash air cleaner cover Buell Deluxe tank bag Buell rear storage bag (the small one that fits over the passenger seat) Buell cover Buell tank bra Service manual Oil filter & gaskets for one more oil change Crappy Harbor Freight rear wheel stand |

I'd throw a tarp over the bike and keep it in the garage until it turns vintage before I'd part it out. I'd still like to give it a few more weeks before I start disassembling things, but if it doesn't sell reasonably soon I'll consider putting some of the stock parts back on and selling the aftermarket stuff separately. Rob, removing the brake & reservoir would be more work than I'm interested in doing right now and I'm still hoping that particular upgrade will help sell the bike, but thanks anyway! Jason, Fio & Hybrid, I'll be in touch soon regarding easily-removed parts if it doesn't sell. |

SOLD! to fellow Badwebber Brian. I can't tell you how happy I am that the bike's gone to another Buell enthusiast who will appreciate it. Treat my baby well, and ride safe! |

Thanks Dave, I managed to 'accidentally' put about 100 miles on the bike on my way home, running a short route that I take on my Uly to compare. Even being very conservative, I kept catching myself flying much faster compared to the Uly; it felt that effortless. Thanks for the great transaction. |
