Well, safer than I was. Just finished the HD "Rider's Edge" class. You know, I entered it pretty much just to save on my insurance rates. I figured I've got enough experience to have learned all that a beginner's class may offer. I was wrong, I was forced to practice things I never would have otherwise (U-turns, swerves, etc.) Coolest part is, the course was basically free because I'll get a big percentage knocked off my insurance! Never thought I'd say this, but MSF ROCKS  | ||

You would have saved even more if you would have taken it at a local community college. HD charges twice the amount. | ||

They all charge within about $50 of each other down here so far as I've found. Besides, now I can say I've ridden a Blast. Didn't seem to have anything on the hotrodded SR500 I had in Austin twenty years ago. Well, except brakes. | ||

local colleges are typically booked up within hours of opening their registration sites (at least around here, northern illinois) dealers can run their programs as often as there are students | ||

Colorado subsidizes MSF training, which is funded by $1 per motorcycle registration (or license). I paid $120 at a CC, worth every penny. If you are currently a BRAG member, I believe they will reimburse you $50 in the form of an HD gift certificate, if memory serves. Check Buell.com for details. | ||

Yeah, i went to St. Petersburg (first time EVER in FL). Freaked out when I saw giant cars moving around with no drivers aiming for any smaller vehicles. Only then did I notice the small tufts of blue hair and glasses under the steering wheel. Never again! | ||

It's really not that bad once you get used to it. Dump trucks are the worst hazard, the bluehairs just add some entertainment to the rides. In fact, Florida has some really excellent day and overnight trips to offer, and rewards determined searching with deserted twisty roads. I had no idea, until I started exploring, how wonderful the motorcycling is here! | ||

Austinrider-- I spent many happy years riding the hill country around Austin during and after college! It's harder to find good roads down here, I had to buy big detailed maps and look them over. Even then you only get 4-10 miles at a time! Between Ocala and Sarasota, particularly on the western half of the state, are tons of well paved, two lane roads that don't show up on normal fold-out maps. You can find very nice sections to ride (many times I don't know why they twist and turn, but thank you road maker) and see some stunning scenery too. It's not like riding through hills or mountains, but having to work to find it makes it seem more rewarding sometimes. There's also good riding around Mount Dora, but those roads are well known and crowded.  |
