I have a 2009 1125r, have had harness recall and stator and regulator replaced 3,000 miles ago and voltage has been perfect. Riding today and came to a stop, smelled electrical parts burning, bike shut down starter does nothing, fans work and instrument cluster is working no codes. noticed a 3 prong relay under the seat was melted and burnt through, connector is melted also, any idea what that relay is and what would have caused is to fry. |

If the relay is zip tied to the wire harness, it's likely the relay that switches on and off the 3rd leg from the stator. This is a part of the Charging System Upgrade and as such if it is indeed this relay then H-D should warranty the repair. |

And you should keep a spare one on the bike. I will always have one with me since I burned one out and I almost got stuck ten miles from home. |

I thought is was part of the harness recall, hope I don't need another stater, this would be number four. I was about 20 miles from the house, dealership was closed for about an hour, but I sent a text one of the owners sons and they came and got me. H-D of Macon does a great job, they go above and beyond the call of duty. |

bike is in the shop, will try and get a pic next week. It is a simple 3 pronged relay, I am thinking it is part of the harness recall, mine was right under the seat near the fuse block |

Could you show a pic of the relay ,or were its located. I would like to carry an extra. If you use the search facility you'll find pictures a-plenty of the sub-harness and relay. You don't need to carry a spare, if the relay craps out, just disconnect the sub-harness and fit it back to stock and you won't be using the relay any more.. That'll give you time to decide whether to leave it like that or buya replacement relay.. |

It was the starter relay, and part of the harness that burned up, they have ordered the parts, should be here in a couple of days, hope to ride by Friday. Stator and regulator working fine. |

What did your dealer say was the reason for the meltdown. I can't get an answer out of mine. |

Replaced the relay and harness, runs fine, but when the bike got hot, the the stator was not charging, so now another stator and regulator has to be installed, got 2000 miles on this one. The dealer can't really tell me why this happened, but seems like the stator went bad and fried the relay and harness or the relay stuck in the closed position and caused the stator to fry. |
