Had my bike dyno'd over the weekend. the power was kinda what i expecting. 120 rwhp. But what shocked me was just how loud my D and D was. Ten feet away at shoulder high 8,000 rpm it was so loud i could not yell to a friend 6 inches from his ear and he hear me. The dyno crew said up next to the bike the decibel meter read 127 decibels. Any way to quiet this pipe down without adversely affecting performance. I don't want to put the stock can back on or pring major cash for a new one. |

I'm pretty sure the bike runs quieter with open headers than with the D&D. I'm not aware of any commercially available quiet core that would work, but if you have fabrication skills you might be able to make one. |

Put a Supertrapp End Kit with about 23 discs on it (the max I've seen used on a twin) - probably dyno better as well. EZ |

Heard a D&D in the shop this week. Way too loud for my tastes |

Hey - Repost from http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/629934.html?1304336589 --------------------------------- Posted on Sunday, May 01, 2011 - 05:00 pm: I also wonder what it is like accelerating at WOT. I was at Willow Springs and a guy had an FMF pipe on his 1125R. It sounded fine at idle (great tone, pretty quiet), and only a little louder if he blipped the throttle. However, 5k in neutral is a LOT different than 5k RPM in 3rd gear and full throttle accelerating down the front straight! Even 1/2 mile away, that thing was stinking loud! The owner was unhappy that every cop within 5 miles could hear him coming. I'd have to say that is putting it mildly! (Message edited by catalan42 on May 24, 2011) |

So............... Having said all that, I do still have a D&D pipe (& race ecm) on my 1st Buell, a 2004 XB12S Lightning (previous owner did all the work!). I'm not sure how that one compares to the 1125R version.....? |

Summit point had a 105db limit last time we raced there. Taken on the straight away, so you were getting it on when measured. A few guys failed. Our single was at 105 so we just got to race. 127db is extreme, at that volume it's not even a real exhaust. Wake the dead loud! |

Catalan, I've got a D&D on my XB12Ss and it's nowhere near as loud as the FMF Apex on my 1125. If 1125 D&D > 1125 FMF Apex and 1125 FMF Apex > XB12Ss D&D then 1125 D&D > XB12Ss D&D IMHO, Nels |

no quiet core is available. I bought the bike with the D&D or i would not have put it on. Have some fab skills and have been pondering what to do with it. Side by side anybody know what the differenc is between a regular baffle and a quiet core. I'm assuming some diameter difference and maybe. Money is a little tight for the next couple months or i would buy a barkers and an Erik Buell Racing ecm in a second. |

you can't really compare an xb silencer with an 1125 one, the d&d 1125 silencer doesn't have enough volume ( and i don't mean mean in a loudness way ) |

INMHO no comparison to a loud XB or tuber to an 1125. Engine tone is a different. The 1125 is very sharp and the xb and tubers have a more booming tone. Like comparing a .30-06 rifle to a shotgun. Still loud, but in a different way. My x-1 had a V&H with no packing, loud, but not ear splitting loud like my 1125 |

I've had the opportunity to hear a D&D 1125 indoors (in a shop with brick walls). I'm good, thanks... Serious suggestion: Find someone who thinks a D&D is a great sounding pipe (try your local Craigslist), sell it, and get something a bit more sane. |

Thanks Albert for leaving him a reply. Hopefully he will contact me. Tried a couple of things today. Still loud. Gotta change it |

Supertrapp endcap or can with 23 discs should quiet it down, and probably fill the middle area, probably no loss power, or little - sound will be quieter. EZ |

Yeah the D&D is HORRIBLEY loud and any level. I think it actually loses power over the stock exhaust too. |

The deal EZ is for the money for the endcap kit or can is the cost. for a few more $$ i can buy a Barkers.. Just trying to figure a cheap way to tone it down. Albert hit it on the head about volume of the can. Can't do a lot with it..I'll give a few days, then probabbly put the stock can on. Till funds allow for a barkers or Keda. |
