My friend is looking at purchasing a '03 xb9r with 9000 miles. Its about a 3 hour drive away from us but looks like a fairly clean bike? Its listed for $3500 but I think that sounds rather steep for a 9? Says entirely stock, but no turn signals or cheesegrater tail. Might bear close scrutiny for other things that could be a bother later. | ||

I agree, Im trying to figure out whats done with the exhaust, as it does not look stock. Im assuming he is not the first owner and has not done any of the work to it since he thinks its stock. Im calling him for my friend later to day to ask a few questions, I just wanted to get some good ones going. Im thinking $3,000 would be a fair price, and $2,500 would be great price? | ||

Yeah that's a factory Vance and Hines race can. HD sold and installed them the first few Xb years then the EPA shut that down. I have one on my 12. One in really good shape can bring a lot of money on ebay. I wouldn't trade mine for any of the after markets I see floating around. | ||

What the heck are you talking about? Any deal on a bike in this price range is a cash deal. I don't understand when people say that. Someone tried that when I sold my Yukon for $7500- him: "I'll give you $6500 cash", me: "Well, all I'll accept is cash (or bank note equivalent), and the price is $7500". | ||

But to answer the OP's questions: that looks like a pretty clean bike, and is a GREAT deal at $3500. Man, that's a lotta bike for $3500! Have him email high res photos to you to help you decide. I wouldn't hesitate tho, it's bike buying season and it's likely to sell fairly soon at that price. | ||

 Froggy thats all I got. haha I looked and all it says is not for street use.Race/road course something to that matter. I guess I was tripping. I looked everywhere and it has no logo or company indicators. I bought it from the original owner who worked for HD.Not that it matters but he told me it was "dealer" installed not factory like I stated earlier.(I was tripping then too I guess) | ||

I know it probably isn't comparable to whatever you have but it has served me well.I would think as much as HD and Screaming Eagle rub nuts, the muffler would be stamped Screaming Eagle. You know like all the pipes on HD ALWAYS are? But you can ride your theory and I'll ride mine. I 'll just stick to calling it a "race can" since it is marked not for street use. They do resale for more and last longer than any after market "race cans" so I am happy. | ||

Fetal pig? Yeah, that's what Rolling Thunder called it back in 03. It's no theory, it's a fact. I don't know why you're so against Screaming Eagle, they've designed some pretty impressive performance parts. Do you also deny your engine was built by H-D? Face it, H-D owned Buell. Now here's the theory part, Erik had Screaming Eagle design the exhaust because they were easily accessible, and they have lots and lots of H-D VTwin experience. Why go out to find something that's in your back yard? I have one, have since the bike was new, I had my dealership install the Race Kit before I took delivery of the bike. It works well and I love it, not too quiet, not too loud, and the power delivery is right up my alley. I'm just not ashamed of who designed it. | ||

Glitch have you been drinking again? Just kiddin. I ain't against Screamin Eagle. Never said I was. I thought my idea made sense. SE puts the stamp on everything but just not this muffler? Yeah ok whatever. I bought my bike and it was on there. The Fellow who sold it to me said it was a V&H. You say it is a SE. I say I don't really care either way. How is that hating SE? And I don't hate HD either or Erik Buell Racing. What I don't like or support is Erik Buell Racing. He washed his hands of what made him famous so I am washing my hands of Erik Buell Racing since because he IS using foreign motors and I really think we have a large enough market for that already. Now if he ever STARTS FULLY supporting the bikes that made him famous then I'll get back on board. Otherwise FOOK him, I ain't spending my money on his Gas caps or ECM's. I ain't got nothing against you but this is a public forum so unless they ban me I will continue to bash Erik Buell Racing all I want. Maybe you got money flying out of your ass but I don't. Muffler is obviously a Buell Race muffler, V&H never made a can like that.Got a stack of every can ever made--and a couple that never saw production for the XB's. Erik abandoned us??!!!! I thought it was HD that closed Buell down,he had no plans to do away with the air-cooled platform. Guess I should be pissed he "abandoned" us Tube-framers whe he built those darn XB's! | ||

Yep. The muffler was not for a Harley Davidson, so it never had the SE logo stamped into it. It would be out of place on a Buell too.

That is probably the 2nd stupidest thing I've read this week. You rather him continue using the uncompetitive junk from Harley? He is in the business of making racing motorcycles, and when you do that you need high performance motors. Where can Erik find a reliable 185+hp motor that weighs less than 150lbs? Not in Milwaukie at least.
He can't, and won't, as that is just stupid. He can't because Harley won't let him. He can provide limited support in the form of accessories, but pretty much anything beyond that is in Harley's court.
And the only one you hurt is yourself.
You have no legit reason to bash Erik Buell Racing. You hate them for making smart business decisions, like trying to get back in the business of making street legal sport bikes.
