Planning ahead just in case this deal does come about & my company moves my dept to Madison. Are there any specific areas to avoid living in? Any that are more desirable than others? Is it better & cheaper to love outside of the city? East side, south? Maybe even 15-20 miles east of the city would be ok too. The plant they are looking at is in Deforest, just north of the city. Thinking about doing a recon mission up there either tomorrow or sunday. |

Dyna...You will get your best info from the local real estate folks. West Side is high priced, heading up 151 from the campus is student, then gay then like Bad Kenosha. Out of town towards Deforest is cool. Lots of little communities. Sun Prairie is even cool. Lot's of folks your age and tons of riders. Was military at one time but has since mellowed out. Check out the back side up HWY 12. Nice area and real close to all the riding areas. That's about all I know. I have three cousins out there. Verona, Baraboo and near the Dane County Airport. All like their respective areas. So other than getting into a criminal neighborhood, you should do alright no matter where you land. |

Bill, depending on the outcome, we will probably look to stay about the same distance from Milwaukee that we presently are..about 40 miles or so to downtown. Even if we ended up 55-60 miles from downtown, if we were closer to 94 it would probably be a shorter trip than it is now. Takes us about 10-15 minutes just to get to 94. Wife wants to stay less than an hr away from the grandbaby. |

Good Plan Dyna. Lots of places east of MadTown off I-94 that will get you both to work and the grandkids in short order. FYI, there are lots of folks that commute from Milwaukee to Madison daily. For Example, from Brookfield Square it is 35 minutes to the Johnson Creek outlet mall and 60 minutes to I-94 and HWY 151 on the north side of MadTown. Those times are riding the rocking chair with some fast movers that average around 70-75 MPH. You can cut them significantly if you are into taking chances with the WHiP and County Mounties. |

Oh yeah...Jefferson County is a hot spot as you get real gas (not the reformulated stuff) and no smog checks there. |

Yeah, And I have the tickets from Jefferson County Sherrifs to prove that I've been there. JT |

Just got back from Madison..well actually Deforest. Nice area, very new industrial park, school & subdivisions right across the street. Exactly 10 miles from the western edge of Madisons beltline. Sun Prairie is relatively close too. I could very easily convince myself to move there. Frickin beat now tho, 260 miles round trip on the R1...I havent done over 150 miles in a day so far because of the torture rack of a seat. I think im developing buns of steel or prepping for the Iron Butt Over 1800 miles on her so far & the only bitch is that damn seat. Oh & I still just about crap my pants when the front end comes up when im shifting thru the gears at 120-130mph. Getting better with it, but still spooky.

I was just camping in Lodi (just outside of Madison. I rented a canoe for the afternoon to go down the Wisconsin River. The rental place warned me to beware of the nude beach and Naked fisherman. Who fishes naked??? I guess only in Madison.... |

Hmmm...you must have stumbled upon the gay beach scene where they use the "one eyed worm" to catch "trouser trout." |
