I've been given a pair of very good condition 2004 XL 2 piece rocker-boxes, if I fit these to my X1 do the internal PCV valves still vent into the air filter, or do I blank the head to air filter breather bolts off ? and do I have to change pushrods/pushrod tubes to 2004 XL ones ? I've got to remove the original rocker-boxes for polishing etc, and wondered if this was worth doing while it was stripped. TIA, Clive. |

Keep your existing venting system, and you don't have to mess with the pushrods. |

Just use button head allen bolts in place of the breather bolts. No need for the breather bolts as you now have a PCV valve on top of the new XB rocker boxes. Plus, the button heads clean up that side of the motor.... |

Brad, the '04 XL Rockerboxes are not the same as XB rockerboxes. They don't have PCV valves in them, therefor it's necessary to keep the stock breather setup. The only advantage of the '04 XL setup over stock is 2-piece design and better gaskets so there are less leaka. |

Phelan, the '04 XL rockers DO have PCV valves within their breather assemblies, though they do still vent through the breather bolts. The advantage is a cleaner look, more clearance over the rocker cover, and no grommet to leak like the XB setup. It is more effective at decreasing blow-by than the stock arrangement, though not as good as the XB with it's integral air/oil separator. |
