Hi Guys, Bought this from Erik Buell Racing and installed on my '09. Once installed there is a small gap approximately 1/8" between the bottom of the lens assy and the housing which it screws to. If you look close you can see red wiring and light (rear cowl and seat are off) thru this gap. Just curious what others have done to seal this and make it look factory. I thought about rtv sealant but want it to look "finished" and not cobbled. I think it's wise to seal this to keep water from getting up and in there during rain riding. Any ideas for that "pro" look? Edited and added 4/22: I also have installed the Jardine fender eliminator kit at this time which moves the plate up and much closer as shown. The original license plate light housed in the stock "rear fender" is no longer used and can't be in this current set-up. Thanks!  (Message edited by Fireboltxb9r on April 22, 2011) | ||

two sided permanent adhesive tape? SWEET tag!! edit: the 1/4" thick grey/black foam insulating tape? would blend that pretty well i think (Message edited by boogiman1981 on April 21, 2011) | ||

That gap is for the license plate light, which mounts to the tail light there. | ||

Xelerator & Froggy....thanks for the pic. My '09 doesn't have the "cut out" that extends back in what appears to be about an inch deep allowing the light to shine downward. Mine runs straight across the bottom, again exposing just a small 1/8" gap which wouldn't shine on plate. Did you have to cut this opening to allow the light to be effective? This opening looks factory. Taillight I bought was p/n Y0401.10AZ which didn't include light. I bought plate mounting bolts w/ LED to illuminate, but I like the looks of your set up better. Am I missing something here (besides Buell license light) or were there a couple different configurations? Thanks! | ||

Forgive my ignorance but what models used the '10 LED taillight with license plate lamp attached with screws on the bottom of this assy? As pictured above my '09 1125R doesn't have the "cut out" as pictured in Xelerator's link above. His picture looks factory either that or someone did a very nice and professional looking job. I may go this route if I could get the same results. Regarding the LED license place bolts I originally bought for plate illumination, how well do these work? As I've not wired yet. Ratbuell - I presume you're using LED bolts for plate illumination? Again, anything you guys can share regarding this mod is appreciated. Thanks. | ||

The 2010 Firebolt used the tag light that mounts to the tail light, the Lightnings and 1125 models all have the license plate mounted further back and have a separate tag light. | ||

Firebolt: thanks for the compliments. That's my CR in Xelerator's pic (ski_merlin is my album) and it only took about 10 mins to rough cut the edge, and a Dremel rotary tool to smooth the edges. Tried to make it look as factory as possible, and works great with the Jardine FE. | ||

I use the stock CR tag light on the stock tail section. | ||

Awesome...my confusion has been resolved...thanks gents. Jeepinbueller: I should be able to simply purchase the '10 Firebolt license plate light (hopefully sold separately) to accomplish what you've done, correct? Again, nice job..I like this look and feel this a more durable install as opposed to using the LED taillight bolts I bought. They are chintzy with frail wiring which would be visible as well which I'm not crazy about. | ||

Xelerator's is cut out like I did mine. 09 and earlier still had a window for plate illumination, though not used. I use mine. I got Robert's first 1125 light(XBLights).   Zack | ||

hey zac,what was your process and materials used on your fender eliminator? I would like to cover the hole left by removing the big plastic fender. | ||

I hand-curved a piece of 3/16" aluminum plate with a dead-blow hammer and a sandbag, then fit to the hole. I made the plate carrier out of 16 Ga SS 304 that I ran thru a roller to curl it. Then I made some spacers out of thick wall Al tubing and some bars to clamp the plate and carrier.   | ||

Off the topic, but anyone try mounting the voltage regulator behind the license plate for cooling. |
