I just installed the Exhaust and ECM a week ago and I am pretty pleased with the performance. However on a steady cruise in 3rd gear between 4k and 5k. I am getting some popping that is noticeable and annoying. Has anyone experienced this? I did make sure the slip fit over headers was sealed with some Permatex Ultra Copper Gasket maker which works well. Maybe a header leak starting from engine block? Maybe the gas? I use 91 octane from big companies. Any thoughts would be appreciated. |

Anybody with a Barker notice this or had any problems in this rpm range? Is this the lean spot? |

I wouldn't say I've had a pop with my '08 R. It's more of a random miss. Same rpm range though. The ECM/Barler's combo is wicked pissa though. Bike runs completely different, in a good way. |

I have the same thing you describe with the same setup. But I also had it with a completely stock bike. It seems much less noticeable if I'm accelerating, not at a steady rpm. |

Nope. I installed a Barker system over the holidays. It did not work with the tuneup I had in the ECM for the HMF exhaust system. So I set about retuning my ECM to match what the engine wanted with the Barker exhaust. Overall...a much nicer running engine with a much nicer sound. My tuning method, that computer program that might not be available any longer and my butt. With the changes I made over the weekend...things are great, mid rpm, high rpm cruise, all acceleration (light and hard), most everything in between. The only thing I don't know yet is the "slow" rpm (2500 to 3500) cruise...or slow lane splitting. I'll find out tonight on the way home from work. Mike |

Thanks for the posts guys. As a precaution I am going to try to get to the rear header to check for a leak at the block. If there is one this is where it would be I think. I checked everything else and once I confirm that then this setup is just that little gremlin between 4k and 5k in 3rd gear. Yeah other than this annoyance through a residential. The bike has really opened up a lot no low speed surging. oodles of power all the way to red line. If I could get this little stumble figured out. I will have two big grins instead of one. |

1 mike if you do test let me know on the 3rd gear 4k to 5k if you get some slight popping. Between that range pick an rpm and keep it steady let me know if you get popping. |

Double check that your TPS is calibrated properly - if it's a bit off, that can cause some odd issues. |

Freezer - I doubt Blake can do anything. I was just really pissed this morning after writing up a full account of what I did and the testing this morning...and when I hit the post button, it came back with a note that said "I couldn't post two things within xx seconds". Funny thing...I HADN'T hit the post button yet...! I've had this happen a coupla times on this site...and no trouble on other sites. Guess I gotta remember to do a "copy" before hitting any buttons here...! Anyway, no I have no popping, backfire, nothing else at any rpm. I had a little at higher rpm..."off throttle", but I fixed that with a little additional fuel a while back. With the changes I made last night, I corrected a few things nicely, but in removing a large..."soft" spot, I apparently didn't put quite enough fuel in and ended up with a "shorter" but more pronounced lag in hard throttle about 3000rpm. All other hard or easy throttle openings are pretty good now. It normally takes a coupla days to figure previous changes. Put the bike thru as many different driving situations as I can to figure my next change. I want an engine that has "no"...driveability concerns anywhere in the full rpm range. I'm getting close. I couln't care less about whacking the throttle from idle to 11,500rpm in one swift motion on a freaking dyno. My bike doesen't have wheelie bars..and I can't get anyplace sitting on a dyno! I'm looking for overall drivability through out the RPM range. Mike |

Alright thanks Mike. It could be a fueling issue. Its either the rear header or the fueling for me. I took it for a ride last night and I am still getting the popping at a steady 4.5k rpm in 3rd. If I cant figure it out I will have my mechanic who has a Dyno see if he can pin point the issue. I will do another reset syonyk and let idle for 10 min. Check Diagnostics to see values and go from there. |
