Ok my buell died on me last fall, and am now ready to revive it again... It started on my way home, when my speedometer had suddenly stop working. So I realized it and proceeded to slap the instrument cluster around a few times and nothing happen. About 20 minutes later I came to stop light where the x1 sputtered and died. I attempted to start her back up and it did absolutely nothing, I had power to the lights and instrument cluster, it just would not even turn over... I parked it and came back the next day, and started to check wires and fuses, where I noticed the small ignition fuse was blown. I replaced it several times and the same result each time, the second that I turned the key to the on position it would blow the fuse. I trailered the bike and took it home where I tore it apart to look for a dead short which I never found. So does anybody have a wiring diagram that I could get emailed to me for this bike, I was thinking on buying a new wiring harness and replacing the old. Also how hard do you think it will be to replace that? Is it all unplugging the old and plugging the new one? Please let me know what you all think...So sorry for the long drawn out story, but i felt it was necessary to understand the whole problem.... } |

I would see if you can unplug the wires that go to the ignition switch (where the key goes in) and jump them together. If that solves the issue, you just need a new ignition switch. Happens all the time. |

The key here is that the speedo died, and now the IGN fuse is blown. Unplug the speed sensor at the connector under the battery tray, replace the IGN fuse, and try again. The reference signal wire in the speed sensor has probably shorted to the ground wire in the speed sensor, which blows the fuse. A new speed sensor is probably in order. |

If you plan on keeping your X1 for any amount of time I would buy a manual for it the wiring schematic is in there. If not I can email you one when I get time?? I would start with eliminating components beofore replacing the wiring harness. |

"A new speed sensor is probably in order." I'll bet you a dollar this is the correct diagnosis. Same thing happened to me. It took the dealer $500 in labor time to figure it out. They had my wiring harness completely torn apart. They spent another hour trying to figure out why my turn signals didn't work, when I politely pointed out that they had not yet plugged the flasher back in. I then politely informed them that they could go to hell if they thought I was going to pay for that hour of labor. Still pisses me off every time I think about it. You know, in case you couldn't tell. |

Early on the ELECTRONIC SPEEDOMETER SINSOR(because of the money it costs for the technician to find that it is the problem) cause'ed a lot of engine run problems ... 1st check is to disconnect it ... |

The sensor is installed directly above your transmission output sprocket (the front drive pulley). The wire for the sensor may be wedged under the starter, so just look for a three wire triangular connector under the battery. It'll be the only one. |

It's directly behind the end of the starter under the front of the battery. A single 1/4"shcs with a 3/16" hex holds it in place. The pigtail with the connector will be somewhere under the battery. Here's a pic, bit fuzzy.

Three wires. Should be the only one. |

Jose, I suggest http://www.americansportbike.com There is a new sensor that incorporates a 5 volt regulator, the addition of which solved the sensor issues on the tubers. I'd hate for you to wind up with an outdated part. Tell American Sport Bike what hind of bike you have, and you're sure to get the correct part. Jeff |
