I am stumped on this. I have a FSM but I can't understand how this thing works. My neutral light does not go on when the bike is in neutral. The side stand/clutch cut-out switch functions normally. What should I check? |

Have you checked the light bulb? I've had them go bad or shake loose. rt |

Or possibly your neutral switch, they do wear out. |

Mine did the same. The plug was dirty and had come loose. Cleaned it up and squeezed the plug contacts together a bit and it's been good ever since. |

Put your finger behind the light bar on the dash & wiggle the contact wire. Mine reacts really well to this treatment & will actually come on & work for quite a while. Seriously: My no working neutral light problems were all contact related at the back of the light bar. |

So, if the light (on the dash) does not come on the bike thinks it is not in neutral? I am asking because my bike has the same problem. |

If the transmission is in neutral the light should come on. If it doesn't it means that there is an electrical fault somewhere. The transmission will still be in neutral, regardless of whether the light is on or not. Chris C |

My "N" stopped working a few times. Each time it was just the tiny bulb in there burning out. |

Yes neutral is neutral but does the circuit thru the dash light determine if the system will detect neutral? or does the actual switch do that? It would be easier to change the bulb than tear the side covers off the check |

IMHO: The switch detects neutral selection & sends the signal to the dash cluster. |

You will also find that if the light isn't working the engine will die if you put the kickstand down and you'll have to pull in the clutch to start it even though it is in neutral. |

If the wire has come off the switch, you just have to take off the pulley cover, on the right side, aft of the cam cover. There is one 3/4" nut and three small allen-head bolts. Should take ten minutes. The wire clips onto a stud(?) that is just behind the pulley (but accessible without removing the pulley.) 15 minutes from start to finish. Unless the switch itself is buggered. |

If you short the one wire off of the switch to the chassis, it should turn on the N. |
