Ok for all the machinist's out there, I have a Erik Buell Racing full race exhaust and need to reduce the decibal levels by about 15 to get in the 87-92 range. What do you suggest? I know someone has something out there that will work... I tried decibal daug but it is too small for the pipe opening. |

Look at the 1190 setup. I doubt you'll get close to that DB target since the stock pipe measures 88 at idle. |

Yeah i know she barks real good. I just have one track i go to that has an issue with it. Last year had to shove the db daug into the end and wire it up Magyver style, it lasted until I was done with sound check and sputted off during safety check! I just need something that brings it down a little so i can squeak by and then remove it if need for proper runing. last year I never got black flag even after it was out. I heard of guys putting steel wool in there and letting it blow out whenever but that seems a little cheezy... |

I can see if what I have will help some. I'd need a good pic of the inlet at the muffler and one of the outlet. It may require drilling a couple of holes in the outlet tube unless the inlet side works better. I'll also try making a couple of phone calls to see what other info I can dig up. |

Pipe end measures 2 7/16' outside and 2 5/16" inside diameter. Not calipered but pretty accurate. |

Betzy....have you ever repacked your muffler? Bristol Core www.bristolcore.com in upstate NY has US made packing and the highest quality steel wool on the planet. Also a friend of mine Clif Euler sells db Dawgs, leashes for the db Dawgs plus Bristol Core packing http://www.dirtwerkz.com/Pages/products/exhaust/Bristol_Core.html (Message edited by the_rock on April 06, 2011) |

Hey The rock It's an Erik Buell Racing pipe I think it cannot be repacked. It only has maybe 1500km on it anyway right now. |

Have you tried filling it with popcorn? It's the self expanding packing no one minds getting hit with. Seriously just repack with fiber or steel scrubble and that will definitely reduce the bark and probably give you back some midrange torque. The ends come off with rivets. Be sure to use stainless rivets that have plugged ends when buttoning it back up. |

Betzy, here is what I did to cut the noise down on my full exhaust Erik Buell Racing. Also the Pegasus Race Team out of Germany is working on a solution. }I purchased the following product from Car Shop Inc. on line..Products -------------------------------------------------- ---- DIFFUSER DISC ASSEMBLY 4" DISC ONLY: FOR 2" PIPE (SUPERTRAPP - 444-2003) It is about 3 inches in length and I bolted it to the end of the exhaust outlet of the pipe. It made a SIGNIFICANT reduction in the DB level so that I can now ride the bike of the street. When I go to a track day (and after tech) I'll just unbolt it. Pegasus Racing in Germany who is developing the Typhon is also working on a solution...here is the email I got back from Jens and he mentions that he is working on a solution that will attache }to the end of the pipe. "John, sorry needed a moment, we are very busy about the first race at the upcoming weekend. The Bike will have fans, it looks like we can use the stock ones, but we like to have integrated brackets and there is some little difficulties with the packaging. On the racetrack the bike dont need fans, so if you use it on the track only, think about it. We also will come with an Typhonstyle upper fairing for tracks were you need more aerodynamics. Yes the idea is that the header match the Erik Buell Racing racecan. There will be also a solution to continue from there with another exhaustpiece for lower noiselevels. You are hapy with your 1125R on the track? Best regards Jens"} } I am very pleased with my Supertrapp solution and can now ride the bike on the street again. |

I'll try to get some pictures of what I did with mine and post them up soon. Very simple fix, and easy to remove. |

Gotcha - Thumpe runs one of those off a V&H. - Depending on the can though - I've seen the can ends replaced with a Suppertrapp - round and oval styles on the older twins - screwed on, riveted on, and welded on - does a great job of mellowing sound, and if you add enough discs (for a total between 21 to 23), minimal to no performance loss occurs. That's sort of the idea I have, if I do switch to an aftermarket exhaust, I'd still want a Suppertrapp style can. Maybe buy a used system with a good collector system, and put a 4" Suppertrapp on that with the fore mentioned number of discs on it. EZ |

Chevycummins, What's the dB level with that in? Second, what's the power level change to in and out? |

Not quite sure what the dB is, I'll see if I can borrow a meter from someone and check it. Really didn't notice any change in power. |

How far away should it be checked and at what rpms? |

I'm not sure how far and what rpm, but I would do at idle about 3 feet and at cruising rpm at around, maybe 8 to 10 feet...... I think that would give you a good change in levels for the checks. I wouldn't go over the cruise rpm cause it wouldn't be to accurate to you just riding around. Wide out would be load anyway. |

Search "Car Chemistry exhaust insert" on the Summit Racing site. They have many sizes, I got the 3 disk and cut one off of it to make it the length I wanted. |

On tracks in the UK (don't know about the US), sound checks for twins of that capacity are done at 5k rpm, 1 meter away at an angle of 45deg to the outlet. |

Hey Chevycummins, are telling me that the whole thing in the first two pictures is inside the exhaust? It just slips in and then bolt on the end in through the base of the tip? It doesn't rattle like the beeggees in there? |

It slides into the muffler and has one bolt to hold it in. I've never noticed any extra rattle noise from it but could you really hear it over all the other noise? |
