My mom sent me that magazine while I was in boot camp at Parris Island. Little did she know it'd be love at first sight. |

That was a GREAT story . . . I rode from Orange, VA (Waugh's HD/Buell) to San Diego . . .and Erik, Steve Anderson and I had breakfast at the Hilton near the convention center . . . Steve treated us to an advance VIEW (we couldn't take nor copy it) of the article. Be mindful that at that time no one had ever seen of heard of the S1 and the Monster, although cool, hadn't really elicited terms like "naked" or "street fighter". I left to head to Mt. Palomar and to wander the area that day. I sat in the parking lot at Mothers, took the bags off the S2 and let folks take demo rides up Canfield Drive to the observatory. About the time I was arriving at Mt. Palomar . . Erik was standing on a stage pulling the cover off the first S1 the world had ever seen . . . lots of things changed that day. Jerry Johnson serviced my bike, put new tires on (Thanks, Dunlop) and I headed off to Beverly Hills to hide with Bill (he's a movie producer) in his garage . . spend a couple days walking around Beverly Hills and penning a picture of what customer service SHOULD look like. Did that for a day and then headed to The Madonna Inn to meet the author who was a well known Buell rider and, I think, the ONLY person to ever put a Buell in a novel. Hung out at his horse ranch on Laureles Grade overlooking the Ventana Wilderness for a couple days . . . refueled and headed off to ride my first Bimota and explore Mt. St. Helens. Damn story started in 1987 and the chapters never really end . . . they just smear into one another . . . wrote another great one last night . . . No regrets. |

She wasn't very cool when I brought an S1 home a few years later. She vowed to disown me if I got a street bike, and regretted sending me the mag. It took her some time to stop trying to slap me around over that one. ...and thanks. I liked the Motorcycle Online articles on Buell around that time frame. They seemed to be the only guys online with nothing but good things to say about 'em. Others seemed so fixated on what they were not that they missed the point completely. |

Damn story started in 1987 and the chapters never really end . . . they just smear into one another . . . Court, my story started in early '96 with my S2 Thunderbolt, the BLURR, and even though that motorcycle is long gone, the journey, like yours, continues unabated. I liked the Motorcycle Online articles on Buell around that time frame. Rick, MO had a hand in the creation of BadWeB: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=300&post=84250#POST84250 Blake and I wanted them to host a Buell-specific forum for us. They, more or less, declined, and after some good-natured prodding in Blake's direction, he fired up BadWeatherBikers. It's been a joyride. FB |

Yessir, it was those articles that got me to Badweb in 1999, then purchasing my S1 in 2001 and becoming a member. |
