Is there a real-world difference between the standard E B R race tune ECM and the specific pipe-tuned ECMs? I know the general idea behind the specific tunes but has anyone seen back-to-back results on a dyno or while riding? The reason I ask is because the shootout results showed lower performance out of the "tuned" ECM vs. the race ECM. I know the tuning at the shootout was not the same as the Erik Buell Racing specific tuned ECMs, but it does give me some hesitation to get the specific tune and potentially lose power. |

Depends on the pipe really. Some will make a LOT more power than others. I won't say how much for mine, but it's a significant difference from what was observed in the shootout and it is a definite gain in power. I guess I kinda sound like a cheerleader for Erik Buell Racing, but if you'd seen the results that I did, you'd understand. Those guys _really_ know what they're doing! |

I've been wondering the same thing as I have a very early ecm that was set up for race fuel. I have a FMF exhaust and K&N filter and I'm tempted to send the ecm back for the re-tune, but the bike runs so good I don't want to mess with it. Am I missing some performance I don't know I have? |

You have race fuel for street riding? EZ |

No, I don't use race fuel. There may be some timing difference with these early ecm's but this was all that was available at the time. The bike does not run hot and run's so good I kinda don't want to fool with it. I was told that this tune was basically the Daytona sport bike tune that Eslick's bike had. I don't know, when I e-mailed Erik Buell Racing the response was a little vague as to what the difference was. |

What do you mean by "specific"? A dyno shop tuning a single engine with one exhaust system? IF...the shop knows what they are doing AND are good at it...yes, a specific tuneup on that ECM/engine, will be better thAn a "race ECM", one for all type tuneup. A one set of maps suits all...just doesn't work...for all..."well". Maybe it'll be better thAn stock, or some other set of maps...but seemingly obvious, not as good as a good ECM tuneup on a given combination (engine, ecm, exhaust, throttle body, velocity stacks, living in Denver Colorado with a 300lb rider), it all makes a difference...! Dean, Can you pm me the numbers you saw with the RT-3? |

If you have the standard race ecm, its well worth the $35 to have it reprogrammed for the RT-3 specific tune. |

Dean, are you comparing the actual numbers produced by the Erik Buell Racing dyno and the shootout dyno numbers? |

Yes and no. The shootout showed the RT-3 making 137.8 hp. Erik Buell Racing's dyno showed almost an identical number with the RT-4 last year using the standard race cal. They just did the RT-3 and its well over 140 hp if you use the dynojet conversion. 122.5 hp on their dyno reads 137 on a dynojet. I have a pretty good idea of where all the pipes truly stack up for hp & torque now and I couldn't be any happier with where mine are at. I can't publish their chart or numbers, but its getting up there pretty close to the stock crank rated power. I will post my own dyno chart later when my ecm shows up. Based on what I've seen so far, it should be damn good. Yep, I bought one for me, as well as one for a race guy I'm sponsoring this season. I'm looking forward to a good season of racing. Hopefully we'll get to see some good onboard footage. Matt, if you see this, make sure you have your gopro set to record behind you and facing to the rear. |

Will do Dean and thanks so much for your support! This being my 1st year at the races I dont expect to set the world on fire but as you said we will have some good real world footage of the pipe/tune on track. http://www.njbuellowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f =7&t=777 |

Sounds like I will be getting the specific tune from E B R. Hopefully I can just stop by and have them do it. |
