I'm really jealous of your trip. It's my dream to return to Alaska someday (but next time by motorcycle). It won't be on a Blast though due to the small fuel capacity.

I am going to bookmark your site and read it when I have time.

I was at the Harley dealer in Cedar Rapids Iowa, reading Thunder magazine I think, and there was an article about riding up into Canada....maybe about the great lake region....anyway, the the author's buddy was named EZ, and I was wondering if that was you?

I did a quick search. The mag was more likely Throttler. I vaguely remember it being a non-nationally distributed one and being made of newspaper material.... Throttler does not post the mag online so I can't check.
Just seemed too funny if is was you. How many folks on bikes call themselves capital EZ?
I guess this mystery will never be solved!

Driving home from work last week on a cool autumn evening along straight section of back road. Bombing along at 70 mph in 5th gear. I rolled the throttle wide open and had the pleasure of feeling the front wheel lift nice and high under the power of Thor's hammer. Alarmed at first, not being used to wheelies, I took in the moment before rolling off the throttle and setting the front end back onto the pavement, continuing my ride home with a wide grin on my face. Sweetness!!

Heheh...no loaded rear, sitting in standard rider position, no motor work except for basics and, most importantly, on a Blast. In fact, any Blast could do it. Just need the right conditions.

Hey Johnny, at least the response on here is friendlier than the ones you got on Ralphs joke of a site. I think its possible with a little manipulation (feet on passenger pegs, butt scooted back a bit and a good bump to pull up on). Grats on doing what most think is an impossibility!

On either of my bikes I can get lift taking off in first, some lift into second, and if I stay on her hard 3rd gear will give a bit of lift as well, the CR will lift in any gear with just a good fast twist - lol - I do know you can get large lift in second if your throttle all of a sudden sticks in WFO - lol - however both of my bikes are lighter and modified - very much so - unless your Bubba Blackwell - I too would have to call shenanigans - lol - Jesse said she could get lift in fourth, but then she built her bike all out stage 3 custom, with all the goodies, and came from a hotrodding family - I sure have never heard of anyone lifting wheel in fifth, though I'm also sure Bubba could. - However, Jessi also found out for the rest of us that doing wheelies all the time will also mean frequent front Isolator replacement as well.

i think mine was in 3rd gear some where along the ride out to Shenandoah National Park. 5th gear.... maybe if you bounced the front end and timed poping the clutch.

Wow! I can't say I'm surprised but I posted a message on the yahoo board completely blasting (no pun intended) it's moderator for attacking me for claiming to pull an "F'N WHEELIE!" as he so eloquently put it, and he deleted it from the board to save face in front of his sycophants. Now I wish I had saved a copy of it because it's now gone and not in my cache.

At any rate, google map these coordinates: 40.454855,-75.906047

This is roughly the spot with the sweet rise. It's a quick rising hill with a smooth arc that continues it's arc over the top and down the back side before leveling off briefly then dropping again to a flat stretch lower than the preceding stretch. Due to this smooth arc if you hit it at speed it will lighten the bike not only at the top of the rise but down a part of the backside as well.

At 70mph on the blast with my weight piloting it (215 lbs) and maintaining a steady speed over it the bike will stay planted front & rear and I get very light in the saddle as momentum tries to lift me out of the seat. I found that if I run WOT as I crest the hill, the bike is just light enough that the meager power of the Blast can lift the front wheel off the ground nice and high. This is not "jumping" the bike as another person insisted. I know the difference between lifting the front and jumping. Any bike can do it under the right conditions but wishing it wasn't a wheelie doesn't make it so even if you have "riden a 60HP Blast Flattracker that weighed about 75lbs LESS than a street Blast, and NO WAY could that Race Bike wheelie in 5th gear !".

At any rate, in a shining example that Ralph's old ass is still in high school, he dug around until he found a picture of me (from facebook link in my profile here) along with the pic of my bike (also from my profile here) with the following text:

I got the reply I wanted from this fine group of individuals. One of open minded skepticism and humour. That is why I enjoy you all so much! I have officially withdrawn my membership from the yahoo group due to the censorship of it's moderator and his unyielding bag of doucheness. I'm sure he'll thump his chest to all his loyal followers and use it as evidence that he still is the all knowing and omniscient Ralph. I really don't care any more.

Ralph is a bitter man who can not accept anyone but himself being right. Thats why I banned him again, when he came in under another identity - he still hasn't learned how to talk in a positive critical fashion when questioning/doubting an opinion/item that differs from his world view, even when he is right, the way he expresses his view is so negative as to make it not worth listening to due to its acidity. At least Kool Aid doesn't burn, like his tongue.

I really enjoyed my birthday today. I played with the air in the tires, sure of my suspension settings, and wanting to get safely deeper into the corners on an often damp road. Though I was very core cold by days end, still the ride itself was a great time and learning experience. Wanting to get myself up to par, so that I am at least going through the twisties as fast as I did on my weekend Blast - Vader. Pulled in only 45 mpg, that will make you miss the Blast - lol - by the days end I had ridden a great ride - on a totally stock 1125CR - by days end my corners had improved a great deal, and tiring work, the Blast is so much easier due to power, weight, and distribution - the CR in no way let me down though and pulled out of each corner like a scalded cat. The day was cold but beautiful, and I had a lot of fun in the learning experience. Two days of rest and relaxation, then I'll bundle up and do it again! Mendocino is quite beautiful this time of year and the good weather runs are to be enjoyed, even on the cold days of December.

Energy One did my clutch kit - they said it would work with every synth but HD Screaming Eagle - lol - more about this cool company latter. I'm putting them in both motors.

Thomas introduced me to this road - bless him. This tight little road - from North Concord to Walnut Creek and back - off Marsh Creek - called Morgan Territory road. For the first two miles it is two lanes of nice twisties, then it tightens down considerably to one lane and the next 12 miles of twisties becomes intense. Its like 9 east of 35 or 35 at the end approaching 17 - one twist after the other.
I have found the Blast to be much faster in this kind of stuff with less effort than the CR, however, I have also figured out the why. I cut my teeth on roads like this on the Blast and there in lies the secret - practice! So while still slow, I now have this really cool road to practice on and my time is getting better. Also, though - the road I have found to practice on while totally demanding, is also totally great in the scenery department - the little river/stream crisscrossing under the road every 5th turn or so, the trees giving dappled shade to the road, and always the next turn appearing before you to be explored. It will be months of education, however, the learning shall be fun! Imagine a Blast faster than a CR - lol

Put the Crossroads on the Daily rider - along with the Custom exhaust - now she's really ready to dance - feels very similar to the CR in leg to saddle distance and angle - nice. Perhaps a cafe fairing and light to go with the shortened 1" Jotta/Laverda Bars. I have a Corbin seat that needs recovering and customizing - perhaps a cafe hump, shorten the tail and replace the tail light with a 3 row led cats-eye french-ed into the rear, plate off of that - button lite/bolts. Marker signals, make everything black powder-coat -
Just letting the bike be all it can be - lol - Its a Blast!

EZ time for you to bring them to Tenneessee in august and put them to the test on the dragon.. they had rockslide near one end and is due to reopen july 31..well that is the state deadline. I have heard rumors(from another blaster) of a buell rider destroying other bikes thru dragon and using 3rd gear only.. i wanna verify that when i can though. But head this way i'll throw some steaks on the grill and we'll get busy.

if you go to madmaps.com and check the one for the smokey mountains it has deal's gap aka the dragon and the route is lays out is like 276 miles. nice scenic ride with lots of twisties: )

Yesterday was eventful- I almost got T-boned by an SUV! I was coming up to an intersection where I had to run left. There is a dedicated lane to turn left and I'm coming up to light when an SUV comes in from the right in front of a bus stopped on the right lane. This guy wanted to go the opposite direction and cut across the double yellow in front if the bus. I swerved left and got out of the way, by the time I stopped and turned around he was gone!!

The same night I'm coming down the NJ turn pike at 70 in my car almost side-swiped a bike. He must have been doing 80 or 90 and in the time it took me to look in the mirror and put my signal he was right on my side, I swerved back onto the other lane and by time I got my bearings he was a good half mile away.

All it takes is half a second to make a mistake..regardless of if you have 2 wheels or 4. Drive safe guys!

This happened a bit back, however, since it is Ride to Work Day -
I was talking to a fellow motorcycle commuter. I asked him if he had went for a ride that weekend, with such great weather, he looked at me shocked. "You know - I had almost forgotten about leisure riding!" - he looked like he had lost and just regained an old friend. I put on the rest of my gear and headed off for home. Most days I'll take a short route, but I also do some nice 'long way to home routes' during the week on the Blast and try to put in at least 50 miles a day for the week end. My best being close to 700 miles total - most of it twisty back roads! I will never forget to get in my 'Recreational Riding' - LOL - it is one of the good things of life.
