The Vance & Hines pipes are pretty decent, if you can find one. Mines been on the bike for at least 7 years. Only issue has been the black paint on the V & H has faded/flaked off. |

The ones I do see for Buell are the 1999 and up mufflers. Will those mufflers work for the 1998 S1W? Do I need to have the muffler specific for this bike so it bolts up properly. Are there mufflers that are universal or use additional hardware to bolt up. |

There are basically two types of exhaust. The older models have a 2" collector and the newer have a 2.5" collector (the fitting coming off the Buell exhaust pipe). I am not sure, but you may want to see if you can use your current elbow along with a '99 or newer exhaust can. As the exahust become harder to find (cheap that is) I imagine there will be many custom applications put together. Already I have seen everything from straight pipes to $25 glasspacks welded up to fit. I myself had to weld a new plate on the front of my WileyCo. can after it cracked. Use your imagination and have fun. HOWEVER!!! Make sure you do quality work. As I have also read about an individual here who did not weld so go good and the can fell off and launched him right off his bike. |

This is going to be a little tougher than I had thought. I called HD dealer and was told part listed as obsolete. Whats that for help. Now that you mention weld giving out and person being launched I'm thinking that the problem with mine is a crack around front of muffler. I can see that happening as there is only a back hanger. |

On a side note I've been thinking about modding my KT systems exhaust, chopping the long runner of it, and replacing it in carbon. I'm on a weight savings kick lately. I want to get the bike down around 380 lbs. |

I took my muffler off to attempt to have welded but the core is totally gone. I at least have the piece of mind that the pipe extends into the can a couple inches. I'm just going to have to be creative with a little modification for a muffler(supertrap/vance and hines) hanger on the back. If anyone does hear of a race muffler to go with my race header hit me up. |
