Hey all, quick question I'm in the process of taking my primary cover off and have run into an issue. I can't get the splined collar that sits inside the shifter lever off, is there a special trick to remove it or are you just suppose to pry it open? I've tried using a screwdriver but I'm afraid I'm going to either break the screwdriver or damage the part. As far as I'm aware the primary cover has never been off the bike so the collar is pretty tight on there. (Message edited by cecilsan on October 12, 2010) |

I ran into the same issue. I used a the claw from a standard hammer, wrapped in duct tape (to avoid gouges) to pry it off. Work around the circumference of the collar until it slowly comes off. Break away doesn't hurt either. Just make sure you replace the rubber washer and oil seal |

You can try prying the collar open and then pull it off (using a chisel punch or screwdriver as a wedge-as in above posted method, be careful). I use an automotive battery terminal clamp puller. (For the old style batteries with the post terminals on top-may or may not be available at your local NAPA auto store). In my opinion, unless you have experience replacing oil seals, if the shifter seal isnt leaking, leave well enough alone. |

Finally got the cover off, thx for the help. The hammer trick worked. I did knick the cover in 2 small spots though . Oh well at least it's off My adjuster shoe definitely has some grooves in it. At it's worst it looks like 1-2mm in depth. I'm going to replace it and possible try the shift paw adjustment. Anyone know the primary gasket part number? I have the 2007 parts manual from Buellforums.com, does that have the most updated #! (Message edited by Cecilsan on October 12, 2010) |

The XB primary gasket will work. The bolt hole just infront of the starter is slightly off (at the top and above the vent tube) but the gasket is a rubber coated steel design and is better then what was on my 02 parts motor. # 17128 from American Sport Bike $17.95 I will see if i took a pick when i rebuilt my motor. |
