Being a new to Buell guy I am curious about the differences between my 00'X1 and an HD Sporster. What are the main differences between my 1203cc motor and that out of a 1200 Sporster? Do the bikes share any mechanical properties i.e. transmission. Are the heads the same just different pistons? What are the power differences? Just curious! Thanks in advance! | ||

What I know for sure - Different head porting Higher CR pistons Different squish angle Possibly a lighter flywheel (depending on how late in the 00my your bike was built) Much larger airbox Different cams (x1 has the equivalent of Andrews .497 cams iirc) Completely different FI system Not sure about - Larger valves Different gear ratios | ||

Most hard parts should interchange. Performance differences are in different leagues. I never rev my 883r like I do my X1, and they have totally different characteristics in the rev range. My 883r gets rougher the higher I go, the X1 gets totally smooth above 3000rpm. I know most other sportbike riders see the sporty engine as a detriment to the Buells, but I see it as one of its greatest strengths. I can go online and order repair or upgrade parts that fit both my 883r and X1, and most parts will fit a multitude of years. Can't say that about all the metric sportbikes that are totally redesigned every year or two for that extra .0001% increase in performance. The tubers do fare better in that department though, but its nice to buy gaskets, motor, and trans parts that are much cheaper than other bikes. |
