i am sure its a stupid question but how many wires are supposed to be hooked up to the negative and how many to the positive.

depends
i got 3 on the neg and 4 on the pos.

oem cables -1 each
batt tender -1 each
12 V acessory -1 each
lo-jack has the last one on the pos, and grounds to the subframe.

I have one cable on pos. side and one cable and one small wire on neg. side.

I have 3 on each, one is the battery tender wires, the big ones I assume are starter (positive), chassis ground (negative). The other small one on positive is probably going to the fuse box, the other small negative one not sure what that would be for.

My completely stock, never changed, '08 1125R wiring has one large wire on the positive, and one large with one small wire on the negative. Total is 1 positive, 2 negative.
