Sorry for another harness tread, but i really don't find anything to help me installing the harness upgrade. Does anybody have instructions for installation? I really don't know where does that wire go, and if I connected in right...
Thank you for any help |

I haven't seen an actual install instruction sheet yet. The only thing I have seen floating around here is a copy of the troubleshooting diagnostic instructions. It has a wiring diagram at the bottom and can be found here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/554588.html With that and a wiring diagram from the shop manual you can figure it out. I would be more specific but it has been a while since I messed with it. I don't want to give any bad info. |

Gemini, I couldn't figure out how to navigate from from anti-spam's index page to the document you list above, although the direct link works just great. Do they have other interesting documents listed there? |

I would just like to thank you for the help, you are awesome. I've been out for a while so i didn't really try it but i hope i'll do it this week. I really have a problem now, because I'll probably need to reflash the ECU (right?), but my only dealer has closed the door, So I have no service for the bike in my country anymore. And I have two buells... Any idea what to do? |

could always buy an ecm from Erik Buell Racing, they are set up for harness operation |

Holy crap, this guy lives in SLOVENIA! and owns two Buells! Gotta give credit to a man willing to piss into the wind! Not sure how that will translate into Slovenian (?) but it means you have my respect and admiration. |

Probably I'll really have to buy an ecu. Heh, thanks Duphuckincati It's been quite a problem to get them here, especially cr 2010. I have 3 homologation for it (Great Britain, Deutschland and Slovenian). Well those are my beauties, beside my girl of course

So I finally find some time to put the bike together with the new harness. It was -1°C outside when I took the ride. The bike showed 12,2V at idel, an it went on 14,4V when riding. Every time I stopped the voltage dropped to 12,2V in a minute and every time I ride for about two kilometer it went on again to 14,4V and stayed between 14,2 an 14,4... I think that's not good at all, is it? Anyway, i still didn't reflash the ECU, because there is no dealer who could do it for me..... |

Wow Believer, you have my respect for your ownership and determination. If I remember correctly, your voltage at idle, 12.2 volts DC, is correct. The stock ECU will give you a higher RPM at idle, so that is good, however, the Erik Buell Race ECU will give you better overall performance of your CR. But, Race ECU will keep your fans on longer, which tends to drain the life out of the battery. So it is a trade-off. Best to keep your battery charged with a battery tender when not riding or just charge it once a week with a battery charger. Good luck brother! (Message edited by two_seasons on February 01, 2011) |

I'm thinking of removing the harness. Before I installed it i had no problems with the battery or charging the battery. The voltage never dropped under 13,4V. And I never charged it with a battery tender. I made about 5000km without any problems. Now something is popping in forks, and the clutch has weeped, today my rear break has locked...I can't even move my bike! |

I hate it when something apparently unrelated seems to "cause" a bunch of troubles. |

I have not seen 12 volts at idle since having my stator and voltage regulator replaced. There is a post here someone that says what happens if your bike doesn't have the correct programming for the wire harness. I can't remember if it only runs 2 legs of the stator all the time or if it always runs on all 3. |

Believer, if you never had trouble with it before, I think I'd remove it. It just seems like some buellers have had too many charging issues after they did the harness install. The clicking in the forks is normal. Especially when it's cold outside. Sorry to hear about the other issues. Be patient and you can fix them yourself. Members on this board will assist you any way we can. Hope everything works out for you. (Message edited by redbat on February 01, 2011) |

I suspect the harness without the ECM flash, is sort of pointless. |

I have just under 5,000 miles on my 09 CR with the Erik Buell Racing ECM and did not do the harness change and all is and has been well. FWIW I'm almost never in urban areas with it so I'm just about always above 4000 rpm. |

It sounds like the harness is working to me, the goal of the harness is to keep the stator cool. It does this by shutting off one of the three legs of the stator when the bike is at idle and there is not alot of oil flowing by the stator, so it make sense that the voltage drops at idle, and your ecm must be flashed properly or the voltage would not change. |

Believer, email Erik Buell Racing, tell them your situation, everything you've done so far, and ask them for advice. You'll more than likely get a good solution for your problems. Have you considered mailing your existing ECM to a HD dealer in another european country, I don't think there are any in Italy, but I know for sure there is one in Zurich. Could that, maybe, work for you? Just wondering is all. |

Wow, thank you guys for all the posts, I'm now talking to someone from Austria which is about hour and half from here, and I hope they will be able to help me. The drop of voltage at idle is to fast and to much, so the ECU must be flashed. I still don't know what happened with the rear break, since I don't have time to look it. So yes, next step if in Austria won't be able to help me (they are official buell dealer an service) I will contact Erik Buell Racing. But they said that they can check it in two or three weeks time. I will drive there with a van. It's a shame since the temperatures are slowly getting up... |
