A friend of mine suggested silver soldering the butter fly to the throttle shaft, rather than fastening it with screws. Any thoughts? |

The shaft is stainless and thin. Heat would make it warp all over. The bushings are teflon so they might melt also. Our latest brainstorm has us milling the top bar flat all the way across and using button head screws. This would help the air flow a little and still be stronger than countersinking for flat head screws. |

Thanks Maximum! I just got an e-mail yesterday, seems cuz is having some stock centerless ground to 8mm. His normal contacts failed to get him the right size stock. I found a company in Toledo that has only metric stock so I sent him a link. They even had 304L. Leadalloy is great to work with and should work great for the application. We will figure the most efficient way to get it and go from there. Thanks again for the BUMP, I should have been paying closer attention. Cheers! (Message edited by tootal on November 06, 2010) |

Well it seems ol cuz smashed a couple of fingers and has been out of commission for a little while but he's back at it. Look to talk to him this week. I mainly wanted to Bump this thread before it died. |

Centerless ground 304 SS was to be picked up last Friday. The hand is still painful but he can start writing the program for the CNC. Still looking at EDM option for the slot. |

Well he's building the machining fixtures right now. Going over during the holidays to check it out. I'm hoping he can start producing in January. |

We only have a sample of an 06. (Thanks to Maximum). In 07 they changed the TPS pin 90 degrees and it is turned down to a smaller diameter. There is a picture earlier in this thread. If someone has a broken one you want to send me we'll see what we can do. When we have them ready for sale and I test one on my own machine we will announce it either here or start a new thread. |

Going over this week to inspect progress. Just got off the phone and he has two complete so I'm going over with a butterfly to see how it fits. All his fixtures are working so once we confirm it's good he will start the milling progress. Lathe work is all done. He will have 150 shafts on this run. I'll report more after inspection. Looks like we're finally getting there!! |

I'm in for at least one . . .I've no need for it but want to display it, along with the story and some commentary about how simply congregating around Buell motorcycles have brought together some smart and innovative folks. Why do you guys have to do such positive things? Can't you go to another thread and argue about politics and marriage? I'm an admirer of Steve's work and think this is awesome. Court |

My misfortunes might have been a partial catalyst for this project...and name might be attached to this thread...but Greg is the guy making it happen! I plan to get two of them...one for my 2006 Uly and one for a spare just in case there is ever someone broke down in my area suffering from the same failure I experience last May on my cross country trip. But I do agree that this Buell/Badweb community is a great place. There are so many selfless and talented people...it continues to astound and impress me all the time. I have had the pleasure to meet many Buellers...and yet to meet many more...but I consider all my friends! |

If there is a list...?....please put me in for one as well. The '06 Uly has to keep the hooligan in me smiling until Erik Buell Racing makes something new that I can ride to work. |

Well I checked out the first two and the slot was too long. It would eat into the bushings so he's going to have to get a smaller slitting saw. As we thought, cutting the slot is the most time consuming. He checked on a wire edm but it was $45.00 a piece. That's way too much so he's going to stay with milling it. We did notice that we can cheat a little on one side as the bushing is over an 1/8" back in the hole so that should help us. Here is a sample so far:
And here is 148 more waiting for the slitter:
