Finally got a warm day here n Canada to take the bike for a spin. I did an oils and filter change After. Also took the exaust off as i need to make some turnout's or put on an after market pipe. Question. Can i just leave the bike for e winter? Should i run the engine for a few minutes to get some oil in the filter and around the engine? If yes can i run it with no pipe on it at all? Thanks and happy new year... | ||

i would run it get the oil round but with no pipes a bit  loud should be ok just run it till fans come on | ||

Most posts I read say don't start. One guy said fill the oil filter when you install new one to get oil in engine sooner when you do start it. I didn't do that and it't too late now. | ||

While you CAN't fill the filter (for an 1125!) unless you lay the bike on its side...I do put the filter in a clean can and soak it, then put it in without letting it drip too...much and stick the cover on quickly. It's the only way I can think of to put "some" oil into the filter cavity. In all vehicles with a true "can"...ALWAYS fill the can before installing it onto the engine. Hmmm, maybe drill and tap a hole in the filter cover so you can manually fill the filter...?! Mike} | ||

Don't start the bike after the oil change unless you plan to take it out for a ride long enough to get the oil nice and hot. | ||

Mike, I believe that after you fill the engine with oil, the oil will work it's way down to the filter area and fill that area. So that in essence would be "priming" the filter. | ||

fill the oil filter ? this i got to see... thats for spin on filters.."pre lube" a must... i run it to get the fresh oil through out the motor..1 min or so.. jt | ||

I would. It washes out the dirty oil that's still up in the rest of the motor. | ||

Ride the bike for a half-hour or more before you change the oil. Drop the old while it's still as warm as you can work with. When you're done, yes run it for a minute or two to circulate. Your bike will be fine for the next few months, plug in a Tender. Gonna be a few days until I can ride again too -  Zack | ||

i ran my tubers many times with no muffler for a minute or less. no problems | ||

If you run it with no pipe, the mixture would be very lean since there is no backpressure. I don't think it would damage anything if you're just idling...well, except your eardrums and your good relations with your neighbors! | ||

I am just going to leave it, it is freezing and I can't get out for a spin to warm it up proper. It will be ready when the snow is gone. I will leave it on a tether for the winter. Turn it over a few times with kill switch on before I fire it up after winter. Thanks for the feedback, sounds like it is no big deal to have er sit with the new oil. |
