I'm shopping for a steering damper and so far, aside from the GPR, all I've been able to find are $500+ dampers. I have a problem on principle of spending that much for a damper. (Honestly, $400 is "high" for me too--IMO, a damper "should" cost around $300, just based on what feels like it should be a fair dollar amount for the item being purchased. LOL) I know GPRs can occasionally be found for around $400 but I'd really prefer one of the tube-style dampers that's hidden rather than a big hunk of metal sitting on top of the triple. So, do you guys know of anywhere that sells non-GPR dampers for $400 or at least close to it? |

i just got a GPR from the classifieds for 225. personally; i like it being right there. easy to adjust and purdee farkles. good luck finding the tubular dampers for cheap unless you can make your own bracket. maybe you could score a cheap tripple tree clamp and hack it up. ... |

I completely agree with you flesh. I'm starting to realize that everything available for these bikes are overpriced. I feel like I have to be rich to accessorize this bike. I'd like to buy a full system or a chain drive. If I bought those two items I could buy another bike. NO JOKE!! |

Oh hell, I wrote a reply at work and forgot to hit Submit. Short version: Albert, an adapter so I can use a cheap oem Ohlins is EXACTLY what I want. I'll buy one for sure! |

> I'm starting to realize that everything available for these bikes are overpriced. Part of the reason is the parts you are pricing are top-of-the-mark, true race parts, and not just street-wanna-be knock offs mostly for looks. |

That's some decent progress, right? Looks like all you need to fab is how the damper mounts to the frame. (Of course I'm sure it's not as easy as I'm making it sound, or everyone would be making them.) Please keep with it! |

Find out the travel distances you need then go to fastfromthepast.com get this http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-Steerin g-Dampers-cln-NHK-Dampers/Categories and this (47mm I think) http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-Steerin g-Dampers-cln-Fork-Tube-Clamps/searchpath/2655434/ start/19/total/25/Categories And you've got a Steering Damper kit. Maybe. |

Kinder, those links have the damper and the clamp to mount to the fork tube, but don't address how to mount the damper to the frame. |

I'd previously emailed EB R to see if it just sold the 1125R damper kit mounting hardware (without the damper) and got a reply asking for more info. I replied but never heard back, so I decided to check with Ohlins directly. The Ohlins rep said that he didn't have a listing for a steering damper kit for the 1125R, so maybe EB R just buys the dampers from Ohlins and then fabricates the mounting brackets in-house. I sent another email to EB R asking again if the steering damper mounting hardware was available without the damper. |

I bought the Ohlins kit from Erik Buell Racing , Looking at it, there's a lot of work to make the frame mounting bracket. If you have LOT'S of time, and a milling machine, you could make it. For the work involved in the whole kit, the Erik Buell Racing one is a bargain, IMO. |

I got a reply from Michael at EB R stating that the brackets for the Ohlins damper kit are currently out of stock. I replied asking when they would be in stock, and what the pricetag would be. |

Yeah I know I can probably find a GPR for $400 or so but I want a piston style damper that is (mostly) hidden when mounted. Not some big lump of metal on top of the triple. |

So you want a stabilizer for under $400.00 and even though there is one available that requires less machine work to make, it is not good enough due to how it looks. This may sound harsh but its sounds like you need to make your own than, which is the only current way I see you accomplishing your goal. |

Yeah, I know--I probably shouldn't be so picky about aesthetics. If the GPRs were, say, $300, I'd probably do it because it would be cheap enough compared to the other dampers that I'd be able to overlook its ugliness. $379 is a pretty decent price too, though, and I may end up going that route. But I haven't ridden in close to a month (stupid cold winter weather) and I'm not gonna drop $400 on a steering damper until I see if retorquing the steering head nut made much of a difference in quelling the headshake. At this rate, it might be a couple of months before I get to do some aggressive riding to find out what sort of improvement was made. Also, I'm hoping Albert666 will get his setup completed in the not-too-distant future, as that's the route I'd really prefer to take. Making something on my own is an impossibility--I don't have the equipment or skills to do so. |

I got a reply from Michael at EB r. He said to check back in a few weeks for the status of the mounting brackets. He also said that pricing for just the brackets hadn't been decided. If anyone knows how much the Ohlins dampers go for themselves and could subtract that from the ~$500 that the damper kit costs, that ought to give us a ballpark figure of what the brackets alone might cost. Hopefully I'm not the only person who has contacted EB r asking for just the brackets! |
