Should I really have a hard time passing a GSXR 600 on my XB9 out on the track I would be even with him coming out of the corner and then he would just pull away as soon as we hit the straight |

shouldn't a gxsr6 murder your 9 on a track? |

Well it does have 20 more horsepower than mine so I guess it should but I would show him my front wheel in the corner and then he would just pin the throttle and pull away |

They will pull on the straights but the issue here is why are you even in the corners? Brake a tad later and and you will trash the 600 in the corners. Chain conversion and gearing swap and all will be better. |

I think it depends on the track, and riders skill. |

Bueller83, I'm not track master so take this for what it's worth. Firebolt hit the nail on the head - depends on the track and both riders' skills - but any 600 is going to be faster on the straight. The truly frustrating part is that it takes very little skill to be fast on the straight, while riding a Buell well against I4's does take some skill/experience to make the most of the cornering capability like Hammer is suggesting. |

Get an 1125 I had the same problem with my XB9S. In the Novice Group we were only able to pass on the straights so I had to do a lot of hot pitting to try to get open track. Switching over to the 1125CR it was nice to be able to get around the slow-turn/fast-straight guys. |

I really hate to say this but until Erik comes out with a new line with another company I will not be buying another Buell especially not the 1125 just not enough bikes and parts out there. I will try to be in line as soon as the Typhon comes out that thing is sick. So until then I will probably just have to buy a cheap I4 because I have caught the Track bug it is no coincidence that track and crack have 4 out of 5 letters in common (Message edited by bueller83 on December 10, 2010) (Message edited by bueller83 on December 10, 2010) |

to be honest bueller83 an i4 is unfortunately probably the best bet, they're cheap and plenty around, i've only done one track day on my 1125, then i bought a zxr400 track bike for peanuts just so i could learn on it better and not be worried if i chucked it down the road, i'd be mortified if i crashed my buells, having said that i'd still like an aprilia rsv for a track bike |

I have a CCS XB9 with a 1169 big bore kit, 643 cam and I run cam2 fuel and I murder the I4's in the corners but we get a 1/4 of the way down the straight and the 600's blow right past. So don't feel bad, its not just you. |

First off, show enough respect and spell his name right...it's "Erik". Secondly, it's no skin off our backs if you won't buy a bike from a defunct motorcycle company... Lastly, I REALLY hope you didn't buy an XB9 as a track bike and have different expectations than the results that you are currently getting... |

No Andy sorry for the spelling error but I have owned 3 different Buells and I bought my first Blast because I believe in buying American and I fell in love. I have played with stunting and the Buell is perfect for that it is just hard to get the right sprocket setup. This year I had a chance to go on a track day at Tally GP and got hooked it is so much fun. So now I am going to have to get a bike that can actually keep up with the I4 because I am running Intermediate speeds on my XB9 and I know that I can really increase my time with a more competitive bike. I am in no way trash talking Buell they are perfect bikes for the street but I have to feed my addiction and cannot wait until Erik comes out with a new bike that can actually compete with the I4 and have a great company that will back it with parts |

I am just putting this out there but have you tried a 1125? they are more in line with Il4 speeds and it is still a buell. |

also a practicly stock 1125r did in fact kick the snot out of a hole pack of highly modified il4 600s for a whole year in 2009. |

i wouldn't buy an 1125 specifically for trackdays. buying a gixxer is a better idea for the commited junkie stuck on step 1 of 12. either your not gonna have fun or your gonna push it and wipe out eventually ... no body's perfect (Message edited by nillaice on December 11, 2010) |

I bought a XB9R recently for a track bike. It is a great bike for that purpose. I ran my usual times first time out at Jennings. My son ran also (he is much faster than me) and he ran the same times as his 600. He passed plenty of 600's and 1000's in his group. He carried great corner speed and at Jennings the back stretch is not about top speed but how fast you enter turn 3. I love the XB, it is great fun as a track bike. We will work on the suspension and I think we will turn even faster times. |

Sounds to me like you need to go ahead and get your race license. I am going to have to get a bike that can actually keep up with the I4 I'm not trashing you in any way, but that is not what the track days are for. If your wanting to compete with the I4's, get the license and go for it.} But I feel your pain, it's the same reason I went out bought my Z1000!!!! (Message edited by u4euh on December 11, 2010) |

I was worried about parts for my 1125CR. Then I washed out in turn 3. I've been able to get 90% of my replacement parts through Erik Buell Racing. |

First off, especially with a stock bike, I see no advantage in the corners with a Buell over an I4 600. They are both very flickable and stock the 600 most likely has better brakes/suspension. I have upgraded both of those items on my bike but even before doing so I could pass 1198's all day long, it just depends on the other riders skills. That GSX-R600 has more than 20hp on your XB9. You are probably putting out low-mid 70's to the wheel. The GSX-R is putting out 105+ to the wheel. I know the feeling though. I often will be exiting a corner with much more speed and throttle than someone on a much faster bike. I'll just get the lead on the exit then they whack the gas open and disappear. They don't stay ahead for long though, after I get around them again and get through a couple of turns unobstructed I never see them again. |

They are both very flickable and stock the 600 most likely has better brakes/suspension. Opinions vary on this one, I myself got rid of my Gsxr due to the "heavy" feeling in turns. Brakes and suspension were nowhere near the Buell setup, although a radial setup on the Buell would have increased feel that much more. |

Hammer71, is this street or track use? Could it have been the handlebar position that made the GSX-R seem less flickable? My main point is to say that in a straight line you'll never hang with an I4 600 on any XB. |

I tried repositioning everything, both on and off track, just wasnt feeling it. Straight line the XB is left behind but on those nice tight technical tracks.... |

I guess maybe I have never pushed a regular wheelbase XB (mine is an Ss) enough to see that it has an advantage on a tighter track. And if you had handlebars on it? |

I'm sorry but if you're getting blow away by 600s at Little Tally, you need some schooling. Beat you maybe, but not blown away, not at Little Tally anyway. Ed Bargy has an excellent racing school, and since he designed Little Tally, I'd suggest taking that one. Little Tally is less than a mile and half around and is flat as a 12 year old.

At Tally GP I had no problems blowing the doors off some people but I am just a beginner and I got my doors blown off by the instructors and a few other people in intermediate. I was at Jennings for this last track day and that is where I was having problems getting around my buddy on the GSXR 600. I know I need to work on my lines through 7 8 9 I had great line through 10 11 12 and I need to enter 13 and 1 with more speed |

Ed Bargy teaches at Jennings as well. Trust me if you want to be faster, go to school. You'll gain skill as well as confidence, you'll thank me for it later |

how do you think i feel...my girlfriend rides a gsxr 1000 and we both loved her 750. we live in the mountains so the Buell dominates. |
