Hi Guys, Its started to warm up here in Aus, and with the outside temp my legs are getting nice and toastie! I use my 08r for commuting and it is sometimes in stop start traffic. has anyone had any success in reducing the heat transfer to the legs? |

Dear southern hemisphere inhabitants, it is becoming that time of year that I become jealous of you bastards. Sincerely, a resident of the now-chilly Midwestern US. Ps, no, I think these bikes pretty much cook the heck out of us. |

what sorts of temps are you dealing with? I can honestly say that I've never had much of a heat issue since the ECM reflash And this includes 95*F temps And yes, would be nice to be able to be in a good riding climate all year long, its starting to cool off here on the eastern seaboard, not terrible, but freezing temps are near |

Since I installed the Erik Buell Racing ecm, my temps haven't been over 170 |

ceramic coat the headers/wrap the headers, and line the inside of the frame with a termo barrier. also the Erik Buell Racing ecm apparently keeps it cooler by putting more air through the bike with the fans. |

Make sure you are riding with proper ridding attire, not jeans. |

Well, here is Southern California, it gets pretty hot but I too have the Erik Buell Racing race ecm and it does make a difference in the temp. On days when it is in the 100 plus range, my bike maybe gets to the 190 - 200 degree now instead of the 210 - 230ish range. You may want to start with the ECM as well. |

I hear these gripskins on the frame help keep your thighs cool... http://www.techspec-usa.com/images/62-0093SS3_big. jpg |

Redline SuperCool (or just distilled water with Water Wetter) has helped somewhat. Do not use a Propylene Glycol based coolant in your bike, though (something like Engine Ice, IIRC, should not be used). Also wearing some gear below the waist... just jeans doesn't cut it. You need to layer a bit. I've found that ForceField armored shorts work great under kevlar-reinforced jeans, not too hot even in 38 Celsius Texas heat. ForceField also makes some decent knee protectors that aren't too stifling, either. |

Without the EB R ECM installed the 1125R was unbearable in Houston summer traffic. So much so that I didn't ever want to ride it. The stock ECM is just pathetic. Get the EB R ECM, line the frame (which admittedly barely did anything for me) and wrap the headers. That should help to cool things down. And the EB R ECM cools the bike because it gets rid of the ever present lean condition, not running the fans... |

Any recommendations for a wrap kit? Fiberglass vs. "Titanium?" |

Admittedly I don't live in a "Hot" clime but I have had good results by polishing. Polish the headers and polish the inside of the heatshield. Cuts the radiated heat off the right side a lot. Also, only cost is time and elbow-grease. 3m Wet-Dry, 320-600-1000-1500/2000. Follow that with a metal polish, I used Nev-R-Dull. Hand-polishing the headpipes took me a couple of hours each on both the Uly and Loretta. Here's a shot of the Uly -

Only wear amored riding pants on the bike, I think I might go the Erik Buell Racing ECM. Temps on the bike are getting to around 215 F (102 C). Outside temps here in summer hit the low to mid 40's (100+ F) so any improvement would be welcome! Has anyone tried wraping the headers? If so what is the best material to use. PS, the 1125r is a beast! |

Up hear in Ausralia? They get hot thats for sure. I will just ask you to make sure your header is properly seated into the exhaust pipe? If they leak a little bit they get really really hot. |

I put reflective heat tape on the inside of the frame and have the gripskins on the outside. Engine coolant temperature has come down a bit at speed since installing the Erik Buell Racing ECM, but still see 220F in stop and go traffic while sitting at a long traffic light. |

It's funny. I find I'm riding the Uly exclusively now that it's cold. Really hot days this Summer, I'd figure a way to carry everything on Loretta or my back. As long as you're moving 25+ mph, the bike should be always cool enough to ride. Sitting still can be a bitch if you have short legs I guess. I stick my right leg out far enough to stay OK. This motor can be making 150HP at the crank easy, that's a LOT of BTUs to get rid of... Mr. Buell decided to route the heat THRU the frame/tank and duct it out the back. Proceed at 25/30+ mph and all the heat goes out behind you. Reach your hand behind you, under the fender if you don't believe me. Admittedly, great for the open road, not the best for stop-n-go. Last post tonight, sorry if I rambled. Z |
